Conversations with Erika Wortham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Wortham.

Erika Wortham

Hi Erika, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I first picked up tweezers and a lash kit I ordered from Amazon back in 2018 when I was inspired by a local artist to be my own boss as a new mom and create beautiful lash sets.

I completely underestimated the skill it takes to perform eyelash extensions and put it on the back burner because I was not in a position to go to school while working full time.

Fast forward to 2020. My daughter was 2, and I was working from home due to the pandemic. Hybrid online lash schooling was introduced, and I was able to complete my schooling for my license in person on the evenings/ weekends and online within a 4-month period.

Once I obtained my Texas eyelash extension specialty license, I continued to work on my skills while building my clientele and working from home full-time for corporate. I spent any and all of my spare time practicing and taking on clients. After 2.5 years of juggling the work-from-home mom life and part-time lash artist. I added on Permanent Jewelry to my service menu & finally decided it was time to take the leap of faith. I was ready to fully commit to my business full-time and move into my very first lash suite in Downtown Fate.

Within 6 months, I was able to fill my books and even move into an even bigger suite where I have the capacity to expand my business even further.

I continue to operate in Downtown Fate, where I can be my own boss and be close to my family, all while living out my dream of running my own beauty business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has been far from smooth. Although I was determined to build my business and become a full-time lash artist, I was faced with the loss of my maternal grandmother in 2020 due to covid, a high-risk pregnancy in 2021 preceding by the birth of my son via C-Section in 2022, and followed by the death of my Mother later that August of 2022.

I have had many setbacks as I have gone through some major life events, but I have continued to keep my faith and trust in God. My determination never faded, even during the most difficult times of my lifetime.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an eyelash extension specialist who specializes in Wispy Lash Sets. I believe I am known for my amazing retention. What sets me apart from others is my passion for my craft. I genuinely care so much about my clients and their overall experience with me. I truly believe every client deserves a luxury experience.

I am very proud of the integrity my brand carries.

All of my services are provided by the utmost care and attention to detail.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is to focus on myself and stop comparing my path with others. You never know what someone else is going through to get where they are.
