Today we’d like to introduce you to Faye Austin.
Hi Faye, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I earned my BA in Theatre Arts from Stephen F. Austin State University, but my love of storytelling started much earlier. I always thought my path would stay in performance.
My first professional role was in the box office at Casa Mañana Theatre, where I spent nearly a decade growing into roles like Office Manager and Company Manager. During that time, I also toured with children’s theatre, balancing performing with company management on the road.
One of the most formative experiences was touring nationally with Dallas Children’s Theater, where I played Sophie in The BFG. I also served as company manager and learned puppeteering, which I loved.
While I was at Casa, I started helping with social media and marketing, and that’s when something shifted. It still felt like storytelling, just in a different format, so I started leaning into that work more.
In 2018, I joined Circle Theatre as Associate Producer, where I was able to build on both my production and marketing experience.
That eventually led me into a Marketing Director role with CFJ Manufacturing and Collections Fine Jewelry, where I worked across industries and with brands like Toyota and PepsiCo.
In 2023, I made the leap into freelancing, planning to give it a year and see what would happen. Now, almost three years later, it has grown into a full career. I get to work across industries, and I have also found my way back to theatre. Circle Theatre is one of my clients today, which feels like a full circle moment.
I am based in Fort Worth with my husband, AJ, and our cat, Nora, and I am still building a career rooted in storytelling, just in more ways than I originally expected.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been a lot of pivots along the way, both personally and professionally.
Right after college, I went through a serious health challenge and was diagnosed with Addison’s disease. At the time, it felt like everything was put on hold, but looking back, it shaped a lot of my resilience and perspective.
Professionally, I have had to figure out where I fit. Moving from theatre into marketing did not always feel clear or straightforward, and there were moments where it felt like I was stepping away from something I had planned for a long time.
Freelancing was another big leap. Not knowing if it would work, or how sustainable it would be, was both exciting and a little overwhelming.
I think the biggest challenge has been learning to trust that my path does not have to look linear to be successful. Over time, I have come to see that each step built on the last, even when it did not feel like it in the moment.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a freelance marketing and creative partner, and at the core of what I do is storytelling. I help brands and teams bring their ideas to life across content, social media, email and event marketing, along with design and presentations.
Because my background is in theatre, I tend to approach marketing a little differently. I care a lot about connection and how something actually lands with people. Not just what it says, but how it feels. Whether it’s a campaign or a single caption, I’m always looking for the story underneath it.
I’ve worked across a mix of industries, from theatre to mental health to nonprofit work, and I think that’s shaped how I approach things. I’m comfortable jumping in, figuring things out, and helping bring clarity when something isn’t fully formed yet.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. A lot of my work is collaborative, and I really care about making sure people feel supported and understood in the process. I’m not just executing tasks, I’m helping them bring something to life.
I think what sets me apart is that balance of creative instinct and practical thinking. I can zoom out and see the big picture, but I also like getting into the details and making sure everything feels intentional. At the end of the day, I want the work to feel like something people actually connect with.
What’s next?
I’m really focused on continuing to grow my freelance work in a way that feels sustainable and aligned. Marketing is always evolving, which I actually love, so I’m always looking for ways to keep learning, try new things, and stay challenged creatively.
I’m also in a bit of a building phase right now, exploring new ideas and creative partnerships, which has been really energizing. Some of the best opportunities in my career have come from following curiosity, so I’m trying to lean into that more and see where it goes. And no matter what, I know I’ll always find my way back to theatre in some form. It’s just part of me at this point.
