Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Panda Chacon.
Hi Fernando, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was always the happy-class-clown-kid. My God given gift is me waking up happy and I try and share my gift as much as possible. My first performance was not on purpose! I was the co-best-man at my best friend’s wedding and I did an 8-minute speech and things went well. A few people even handed me their business card and wanted to hire me for a few private gigs. I thought they were joking with me. But no, they really did want to hire me. A few years later I did my first open mic at Dallas hyenas. After about 3 years I became a regular a the Dallas, Plano and Fort Worth hyenas comedy clubs. To this day they have provided me with the most valuable stage time and opportunities. During the pandemic I met Jerry Garcia and he is a huge reason why I began to travel all over the south and the west coast. A few years later I got to open for Fluffy. That was amazing. Thanks to Concrete, and Jerry Garcia for that. I was just at the right place and right time that weekend. And one night I met Hoozay one of the most popular American-Salvadoran comics and he picked me up on his SALVI COMEDY JAM TOUR. And I’m also on tour with KEL PEREZ and that guy has blessed me by traveling this beautiful nation. And now I’ve been doing comedy for about 8 years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not been a smooth road in comedy. I worked with some local headliners that taught me what not to do. Also I was in a comedy group, in the beginning it was great and it had a great run. But comedy is such a great thing to do but yeah it can be a rough career also. But it has taught me so much and overall it’s been worth it and so much fun.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For my day job I’m a drafter/bim coordinator. I draw blueprints and have drawn things in 3d. I worked on the new rangers stadium, top golf, the latest cowboy stadium. And now I work for a power utility company during the day. I also have been coaching young comics. I got my creative writing degree from UNT. And I help them write and show them comedy etiquette and how it works.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck anymore. I am no holy man by any means. But I believe God has created great possibilities if and when we show up and put in the work. God has a plan for all of us this is our fate.
