Conversations with George Escobar

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Escobar.

Hi George, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Braxton Construction Co. LLC — Our Story
I became a young parent at just 15 years old. Like many first-generation entrepreneurs, responsibility came early, and failure was not an option. While still in high school, I secured a job in logistics and stayed in that industry until about age 19, when I was laid off.
During that transitional time, a couple of close friends were already working in construction. One day, I rode along with my friend Dewayne Copeland, who was a superintendent for Alliance Concrete at the time. That experience opened my eyes to the concrete industry. I also learned that another friend, Chris Post, owned his own concrete company and subcontracted for Alliance. I began working with Chris while continuing to search for work in logistics.
I started at $7.50 an hour, pulling concrete and wrecking forms—true ground-level work. After some time, I was called back into logistics, but just over a month later, I was laid off again. That moment marked the lowest point of my life. I had lost everything, was a divorced father of three, and felt completely lost.
I didn’t want to return to hard labor for half of what I had once earned, but I also knew I needed direction. I leaned on my faith and asked God for guidance. That same week, Dewayne called to let me know his company was hiring.
This opportunity changed everything.
I was given my own truck and assigned to travel job-to-job, delivering and picking up concrete forms and stakes. Mike and Sylvia Jones, the owners, gave me a chance when I needed it most. While working for them, I learned how to read concrete plans, inspect form systems, identify post-tension cables, and understand jobsite logistics. At the same time, I continued learning pricing and estimating from Chris Post by constantly asking questions.
After about a year, I began taking on small side jobs—patios and minor concrete work. Things were moving in the right direction until life caught up with me again. I ended up in jail over back child support. Mike was forced to let me go, but before I left, he said something I still carry with me today:
“George, you made money on your very first job—and I didn’t even do that. If I keep you in the nest, you’ll be 50 years old holding on to me as a security blanket.”
He was right.
It was time to stand on my own, knowing I could always call him for advice. Around that time, I met several seasoned veterans in the industry who helped build my confidence. Still, I had bills to pay, so I took a job at Triad Financial all while quietly building Service 1st Concrete on the side for nearly three years.
Everything changed when I reconnected with Ramiro “Rambo” Dominguez, Mike’s concrete demolition subcontractor. After hearing what I had been doing, he encouraged me to go legit and fully commit. After taking his advise In 2006, I officially registered my company and began taking the business seriously.
I eventually left Triad Financial and went all in.
By the end of 2016, my fourth child was on the way, and it was time for the business to evolve. Years of working in new construction exposed me to multiple trades and strong subcontractor relationships. I had already begun handling more diverse projects directly for homeowners, so I rebranded Service 1st Concrete to Braxton Construction Co. LLC a name change only, but a major step forward.
Today, Braxton Construction Co. LLC is a full-service construction company specializing in concrete construction for both residential and commercial projects. On the commercial side, we own and operate our own equipment and perform all concrete work in-house. Approximately 80% of our work comes from DFW homeowners, where we focus on custom projects built with precision, integrity, and close attention to detail.
We don’t believe in cookie-cutter work. Every project is custom. Every vision matters. Our goal is simple: bring our clients’ ideas to life done right the first time.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were plenty of setbacks, mistakes, and moments where quitting felt easier. But faith, persistence, my children, and the right people at the right times kept me moving forward. Every challenge taught me something that I still use in business today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in concrete construction across all sectors, from residential to commercial. One of the biggest things that sets us apart is the trust we build with our clients from the very beginning. We want our customers to feel comfortable and confident that the job will be done right the first time. On most projects, we don’t require a deposit, and when payment is required, it’s handled on a draw basis rather than upfront. Everything starts with a simple, straightforward signed contract. We believe that trust, transparency, and accountability should come before payment.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people don’t know about me is that Spanish is actually my first language. My grandparents were the ones who watched over me while both of my parents worked, so Spanish was spoken at home. I didn’t speak any English when I entered school. I’m first-generation born in the United States my parents and family migrated here from Nicaragua. My mother was pregnant when they arrived in Los Angeles in 1981, so while I was made there, I was born here. That experience shaped who I am today and gave me a deep appreciation for hard work, resilience, and opportunity from a very young age.
