Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Bae.
Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Hi, my name is Hannah Bae, and I have been doing nails for 3 years; 2023 is my upcoming 4 years. I am from Longview, TX, and just moved to Dallas last year. During 2020, I got my license and started doing nails as a part-time job. From the beginning, I did not like it that much; just work part-time while still in college to help paying part of the tuition fee. After graduated college in December 2021, started doing full-time. However, it was very difficult when I first started cause I did not learn much from nail school, just enough for the license. Also, I did not know how to do the designs or correct way of application; attempt to do multiple times and failed for sure. I started watch more Youtube videos and stay up late every night to figure out the correct way to do the designs and practice every day to perfect my application. My ideas come from lots of sources; I watch movies, fashion shows, also read vlog, magazine to see how to colors and designs come together. And get inspired by lots of nail Artists in the industry via Instagram & Tik Tok. I want to become better and better, so I start gather all the information, practice and make my own designs. And the more I do the more like it, and begin to love doing nails because all of the fun and creative designs. Special thanks to all of my lovely clients, too; they are very patience, understandable in the process of me growing and perfect my craft. Summer of 2021, I entered my very first Nail competition and won 1st place. That gave me lots more confident to follow my dream of become a Nail Artist and Instructor. Follow that year, I started teaching 1 on 1 and small group class (like 2-3 students). January of 2022, I moved to Dallas TX to get an easier access to the airport so I can travel more to go teaching. In 2022, I travelled more than 15 different states to teach and help students in the Nail Industry. The class is getting bigger and bigger; it makes me really happy that I can help more people. Also, I feel like 2022 is my best year. I’m a winner of Top 30 Nail Artist under 30 by NailPro Magazine featured. in the same year, I entered Next Top Nail Artist season 8 by Nails Magazine and got to top 18. It was overwhelming and excited at the same time when I got featured by the top 2 biggest Nails Magazine. And 1st place of 2 categories of World Nail Championship in Los Angeles, USA in May 2022. I entered multiple awards and competitions and won lots of categories (will include in the short summary below). With competition nails, it takes few weeks or sometime few mon the to complete, but I love the feeling of winning, do I keep entering more and more competitions. Also, it feels like a bigger goals every day I can try to reach and better myself. April of 2023, I got certified as Master Instructors and became a luxury Judge of 3 different World Nail Championships.
August 2022, I opened my own salon to fulfill my dream and doing more of what I love. Now, I have 7 staffs working with me and hopefully growing and growing more my team.
In additional, seeing my students doing well and become successful, I start loving teaching and share my experiences with the world. Because when I started nobody answer me anything, I asked lots of artists, but they did not answer me, so now I become better, and I want to share everything with my students, my followers, and everyone who has dream of becoming a great Nail Artist. That is the reason I start teaching from the first place. I believe sharing is caring; there is nothing such as secret in the Nail industry; just the steps of how to do designs and how you put the colors together. The more you practice, the more you become better and better every day. In any career, displince and consistency will help you go a long way; and I am so grateful every day for this opportunity and help me become the best version of myself. And continue working, teaching, and sharing with my passion and my heart.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not the smooth road at all. 😄 I was struggle a lot with my application and designs. One of my client got upset and left me in the middle of the service. Others nail techs just looked at me and stared laughing. It was so embarrassing. That was the worst memory to remember for sure. Also, when I reached out to other artist but no-one answer me. So, I tried to figure it out by myself. And at that moment, I promised myself that I had to become better so no one can treat me that way. The journey was not easy. It had so many difficult and challenges. But I kept telling myself don’t give up, don’t give up, you will be great one day. And it paid off all of nightless sleep with the love of my students, clients, and trophies bring home.
Also, become a Nail Artist is not easy; you have to learn new skills, update trending designs every day to catch the trend, and please clients, too also creative with your own artwork.
As a salon owner, the biggest challenge I face is trying to pay the bills, take care the staffs, and try to balance everything I’d like to do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Nail Artist, Master Instructor, and Salon Owner. I’m doing nails and teaching people to become Nail Artist. I specialize in acrylic application and nail art. I’m known for extreme nails and competition nails. Also, sharing tips and tricks to perfect the act;ic application. The things that I’m most proud of is to be featured in the Top Nail magazine as a Nail Artist (featured by NailPro Magazine and Nails Magazine), also the first trophy I got from World Nail Championship as a winner in 2022. I am different from others cause I love to share all of my knowledges and experience with others. We support each other to become better, not drag others down to make you feel better.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I love taking risks. It helps you grow and define yourself; it pushes you outside of your comfort zone and helps you achieve your goals. Without risks and challenges, life is so boring. If you do the same thing every day, it’s not fun and will become comfortable. When you’re comfortable, you will not grow. That’s what believe. All of the greatest artist out there, they accept risks and challenges to find the best version of themselves. Same with me, just do it, either you fail or success, you will learn something. That’s my view on risk-taking. I remember my first World Nail competition, I did not know much about extreme and fantasy nails, but I entered anyway. I took the risk as a beginner, and lucky for me, I won. For me, taking risk is one of the best ways to help advance skills and gain experiences. Live a life where everything was the same, everything was safe, everything was so easy, and most importantly, nobody failed. How would we learn, grow, and adapt without risk? So, take many risks and challenges and become the best version of yourself.
