Conversations with Hannah Kuipers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Kuipers.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Hannah! I am an artist and musician. Classical music is part of my DNA. I started playing the piano and harp when I was seven years old. I never looked back. Music opened doors in my life. What a journey it has been. I took performance to the highest level. I won national competitions, got into Juilliard, then sailed around the world playing my harp. I won a position playing in the National Philharmonic of Chile at age 24. After finding out it was my birthday, the orchestra played me “Happy Birthday” during our first rehearsal. I loved my job and career!
At age 30, I moved back to the USA. I started Hannah Kuipers’ Music Studio in Plano. It is a spot where I teach students of all backgrounds how to read music, how to coordinate their fingers and focus their minds, and how to grow and learn, experiencing better versions of themselves through art. I find teaching thoroughly inspiring personally. I teach piano, but also harp and voice. Music theory is also a strong focus for my students.
At my studio, my goal is to help students grow and learn to teach themselves how to be successful through music. It’s a delightful time!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Music has its days. There are days when the inspiration is lacking. I went through this during Covid and learned to teach online. I learned how to access materials online, and how to share documents and videos for students. Incorporating new tools such as audio-visuals and recordings gave much more flexibility to my studio. Today I offer purely virtual classes and am proud to say I have several students that have solely learned piano online with terrific progress under their belts!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a classical music teacher! I teach piano, harp, voice, and theory. I teach online and in-person! I am most known for being a professional harpist and dynamic individual! I try to learn about my students and inspire the best from them, helping them believe in themselves and reach beyond the limits they hold. I see my job teaching students taking a creative art form as it challenges me to guide people in their pursuit of excellence!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Without goals and aspirations, it’s hard to know our own capacity for greatness! Children growing up in a world of technology will experience increased levels of self-esteem by pursuing classical music. Parents from my studio often return years later and thank me for the support music lessons offered their children. The gift of private- one-on-one classes is for life! Cannot recommend enough.
