Conversations with Hector Rios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Rios.

Hi Hector, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Hector Rios, a Venezuelan house music DJ and producer. I am 30 years old and currently living in Dallas, Texas. I arrived in the United States in 2024.

My beginnings in music go back to childhood, but my passion for becoming a DJ started during my teenage years. Out of curiosity, I once watched a DJ playing at a birthday party I attended as a guest, and I was completely fascinated. What caught my attention the most was that he was playing only 80s and 90s retro music.

A few days later, I searched for a DAW on my computer, downloaded it, and started trying to mix songs without really knowing what I was doing. I would just experiment and laugh at my own attempts—until one day, in 2013, I finally managed to make it work.

Later, I ran into that same DJ again and told him, “I can do this too.” He gave me the opportunity to try, and from that moment on, I never stopped.

But then I discovered something even more fascinating: music production.

I remember leaving class one day in 2015 and watching a video of Tiësto performing at the Olympic Games. I asked myself, “Why is this DJ surrounded by so many people?” I did some research and realized it was because he created his own sound, his own tracks, his own worldwide hits.

At that moment, I paused my studies for two years. I locked myself in my room, distanced myself from friends, and disconnected from everything. It was just me and my computer, creating sounds in FL Studio every single day.

Until one day, something unthinkable happened: one of my first tracks started traveling the world thanks to the electronic music and house music community. That track was Lucerito — a song that, even today, continues to shine wherever it’s played. In 2026, I will release a rework in honor of its 10-year anniversary.

I received many opportunities to play in clubs outside my country — in Spain, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. However, it was impossible for me to leave Venezuela because I did not have a passport. The only border I could cross was into Colombia, and that’s where I had the chance to perform for audiences outside my country, in addition to playing throughout Venezuela.

One day, I decided to take the path of coming to the United States, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. Here, my career is growing steadily and becoming stronger every day. In fact, I now have my own record label.

It fills me with excitement and emotion when I go somewhere and someone says, “Oh, you’re Hector Rios?” That brings me a deep sense of joy and satisfaction.

My future goals are, once I am fully established, to support emerging talent, teach music, discover artists, and help them reach their full potential. And of course, to become a global reference in house music.

Even though I am Latino, what truly moves me is organic house, disco house, soul, and funky grooves.

This is me — Hector Rios.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The greatest challenge is never giving up, even when this career doesn’t pay off right away. If you truly love music, do it from a place of love first — and love, combined with discipline, will remove every obstacle from your path.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a DJ and electronic music producer in the Tech House and House genres. I am known for blending Latin music and 80s–90s retro house influences into modern House and Tech House.

I’m recognized for my music productions, including tracks like Lucerito, Guataqui, Un Verano en Nueva York, and El Ícaro, among others.

What sets me apart is that I don’t follow trends — I simply let myself be inspired by how I feel in the moment when I produce.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Just by following me, listening to my tracks, and appreciating my art, you’re already supporting me. And to collaborate with me, you simply need to love music as much as I do.
