Conversations with Iesha Bree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iesha Bree.

Hi Iesha, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a writer at heart first, so granted the story starts with writing. When I started my journey as an author (Iesha Bree) I did not have a publisher but I wanted to release my book on my own as an Indie author. So, I found a graphic designer and editor once I finished my book. I loved the process and became intrigued with the design portion of it. One day I was talking with a few of my author friends C.Monet and Asia Monique, I told them how I wanted to try to design my own covers and granted they were very encouraging. I got on YouTube and searched google trying to figure out what I would need to design them. From that point, my love of design was created. I started with apps like Canva and others before finally making it to Photoshop. My friends would buy these covers and tell me how nice they were. Today I look back at those covers and realize that they were definitely just being nice. Once I found out that someone would purchase a book cover from me, my knowledge of cover design grew. Now I have a company that’s doing very well with loyal clients!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road with cover design has been far from easy. When you start a business, you’re green to some of the things you will come across while working with others. I learned very early that it was expensive if you wanted to give your authors security and quality. Which is what I strive for within my business. With any business finding your target audience is very hard sometimes because you want to sell to everyone when you get started. But that is not realistic and will do your business harm. I had to learn how to price my services and I am still learning that aspect.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I get so excited when I am asked about what I do! I create graphics for publishers, authors, and start-up businesses. I also design book covers, format books for publication, create logos, and teach classes! I specialize in designing book covers, that’s actually what I am known for. I create designs that are vivid and thought-provoking! One of the things I am most proud of with my business is the fact I was able to move into a teaching role as well. When I first started designing book covers, I never thought it would go this far. I pride myself on being affordable and give great quality work with a love for what I do. When you love what you do, your finished product has a different shine to it!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is hard to choose because I have so many. I was actually born and raised in New York before I found myself here. I think for me it would have to be with my late grandad, He and I would sneak off to go eat food. We would listen to music and he would give me all this advice about how to defend myself or stand up for myself. But when we went, I was always told “Don’t tell your grandma we went to Arby’s.” I would laugh but I always kept that secret until now, I guess. Sorry, grandad.
