Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacklyn Noiel.
Hi Jacklyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I’m Jay! I am what perfect passed up to make extraordinary. I am from a small city called Enid, OK where I was born and raised. After high school, I attended a community college where I took an elective course on photography. After the course, I went more in the direction of modeling. It was almost a decade later before I picked my camera back up. I currently live in OKC with my amazing husband and daughter. My happiness comes from slow mornings, new opportunities, and rainy days spent on my patio.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I love capturing life. I had a few reasons for fueling my passion in photography. Growing up, I never had the opportunity to take family photos. After my parents and siblings were incarcerated, it made it more difficult for this to happen. When my mother came home from prison, she had to work extremely hard to provide for our family but as single mother who was also a felon, the best jobs were not an option no matter how hard she worked. My senior year in high school we could not afford graduation photos nor at any of my college graduations. This made me want to get into photography more so that I could provide an affordable option for families in need. As a self-taught photographer, I have had to take many risks to start my business. I started taking local workshops to better understand the functions of my camera. It was important for me to feel authentic as I developed my own style of photography. At some point, I realized that I couldn’t possibly do everything on my own and learned to ask for help from my husband. I am thankful to have a partner that believes in me and my dreams.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I decided to pursue photography, I didn’t exactly know where the journey would take me. A few years later, I still can’t believe that I’m walking in my purpose. My niche’ is portrait photography but I’m really a jack of all trades. My work is personal. While it’s a collection of different moments, light, and feeling you’ll find bits and pieces of my heart as well.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Not to take things personally. There’s no money to be made while being in my feelings. I’m an extremely emotional person so I’ve had to learn to differentiate business and emotions. I’ve also learned to never stop learning. There are new techniques developing every day in photography. I try my best to enroll in workshops, check out tutorials from my favorite photographers, and taking a few lessons from YouTube University!!!
