Today we’d like to introduce you to Jam Master.
Hi Jam , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In the Mid 80s I was asked to DJ a company Party for Lone Star Ammunition Plant by my cousin. I’ve always loved music and had a collection of records , cassettes, and even 8 track tapes . I agreed to do the party and it turned out great . Eventually I would end up DJing clubs in my area. I moved to the DFW area in Irving Texas for a while to attend Devry institute for computer Science, while there i listened to the mix shows at night featuring Dr Rock . I moved back to Texarkana and besides Events, I started radio not knowing I would end up having my own Mixshow , which was the 1st in my area. My show was called the Masta Mixshow on 103.5 and was the highest rated show in the area grabbing 18- 54 age ranges . I eventually became the Music Director. I worked at several stations but never stopped DJing live events which was and is a passion of mine. Recently I’ved had to battle Cancer twice , colon cancer then throat cancer but by the Grace and Glory of my father in Heaven I Beat it . I had to have my voice box removed but I’m still doing my thing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well in Business, it’s hard getting paid what you’re worth especially when others in my area work so cheap. Health issues will most likely be a problem with many but you have to keep going.
What’s next?
I plan on doing more events, I do travel in the 4 States area. I also mix for a few Internet radio stations . I have my own sound and Lighting equipment.
