Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Frias.
Hi Jazmin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always wanted to be a hairstylist since I can remember. Growing up I remember playing with my Barbies and giving them all makeovers. When I graduated high school, I was encouraged to go to college because I was “too smart” and “too talented” to just go to hair school. After two years in college, I finally convinced my parents to let me go to hair school. I knew immediately I was in the right place. I love getting to make women feel empowered. My quote to live by is if you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good you can do anything!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started in the hair industry, you were expected to learn and do everything, from nails to men’s cuts, makeup, all of it. Although I love everything beauty, I wasn’t always satisfied with the work I did. This made me second guess myself, and I didn’t feel confident about my work. Many times, I thought maybe I shouldn’t be a hairstylist. Can I do most services? Yes, probably, but will it be the best service you’ve ever had? Probably not. Now I specialize in blended blondes and brunettes as well as hair extensions. I love that I get to produce my best work every day instead of having to spend time doing services I don’t necessarily love to do. I get to be my best and do my best work time after time! We no longer need to be a jack of all trades. Finding what I love to do has really helped me fall in love with my career again.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
If you’re looking for a lived-in, effortless look and luxury hair extensions, then I’m your girl! My signature look is a low-maintenance look. I obviously want your hair to look good when you leave my chair but what I really want is for your hair to still look amazing 10, 12, or 16 weeks from now. This is why I love and am known for creating lived-in looks customized to your hair and lifestyle. During your visit, we will have an in-depth consultation and get deep into your hair goals, lifestyle, and expectations before we get started. We are all busy nowadays, I want you to go as long as you need between lightning appointments and still look good while doing it.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
When I need a little motivation with my business, I love to listen to hairstylist podcasts; some of my favorites are Flipping the Industry Podcast, where Tori Johnston, an amazing hairstylist, interviews other amazing stylists, and they go over different struggles, their journeys, and how they got to where they are. Another good one for hairstylists is Thriving Stylist by Britt Seva this one is more on the business side and really gives you a perspective on things you might not even be thinking about it in your business. I also love to see my fellow stylist work on my Instagram feed, and they always inspire me to do my best.
