Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenice Owens.
Hi Jenice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jenice Owens and I am originally from Sacramento, Ca. I grew up in a very musical and lively family. Since a child, I always had a deep passion for creativity. Starting with singing, tapping into poetry and ultimately writing.
In my younger years, I was very fortunate to be able to sing and tour the county with a multicultural singing group. While doing this, I was inspired and exposed to a world outside my hometown that I never would imagine I would experience. This would give me an opportunity to meet people from all parts of the world and all different walks of life.
Following my dream to break into the music industry, I tapped into songwriting and audio engineering. I also graduated from MediaTech Institute with a degree in recording arts. While my passion for music is still very prevalent, writing in general has giving me the vehicle to venture into different creative aspects. One including releasing the popular children’s book “Coco Brown”.
Seeing the impact of sharing my story, I decided to build a brand named IHVASTRY (pronounced I-vas-tree) short for I have a story. I believe that sharing our stories can change the trajectory of a person’s life in a positive way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. I have experienced a plethora of ups and downs. This journey has been an emotional, spiritual, physical and mental rollercoaster. However, through these challenges I’ve grown and my character has been refined for a time such as this. T

I am a creative in every sense of the word. I am an entrepreneur, writer and published author. I am also a singer-songwriter and audio engineer. I’m proud of the fact that by sharing my story, I am inspiring others to share theirs. Hence the reason why I created IHVASTRY, where individuals can share their stories in their own unique and creative way.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe life is all about taking risks. Risks in love, risks in opportunities, and risks in following your dreams. I took a big risk at the age of twenty when I packed a suitcase and moved to New York from California to follow my dreams. It was a brave choice and I didn’t know what to expect. It turned out to be the best decision I ever could have made. It made me who I am today.
