Conversations with Jennifer Massoud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Massoud.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am not your average bear, shall we say? The journey to find peace through God in order to help others find peace has played an integral role in who I am. What sets me apart is a determination to find myself, be myself, and not taking “no” for an answer. When you transform your hurt, you stop transferring it. The desire to forgive and move forward is stronger than staying angry and has helped me develop into who I am. I have a multifaceted background of careers that include being a musician, a retired pastry chef, a bookkeeper, travel agent, and more. I love learning! All of these facets have helped me to create JenXBeauty. I believe in authenticity and when you know who you are you are never subject to what people think you are. The feedback I receive from clients says I bring out the best in people and am easy to open up to. I am an old soul and cherish real interaction between people. I am confident and self-motivated through much hard work on my inner world. I am everything nice with a little Lebanese spice.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My career path has not been easy because the business world doesn’t always care about what’s right. When you do your work, you stop attracting people that hurt you and you have little tolerance for incompetence in the marketplace. The path to inner peace has often changed my friendships and jobs. Getting healthy isn’t always popular because many folks only “love” you for your personality and what you can offer versus who you are in God’s essence. I have struggled with fear of being alone as I worked on becoming. We all have the choice to choose differently but not all of us want to be well and that’s alright too! I ask my viewers, are you a sheep or a shepherd? I also had to fire my business partner due to the onset of addiction amongst other breakdowns. Things did not end well and I never realized how much I needed to grieve the loss of my partner and our vision of the future. I am rebuilding my business with new insight and it’s phenomenal!

Another very personal struggle was the onset and long goodbye of my father and Alzheimer’s. Terminal illness and dementia change everything. I am 4 years into his physical transition after about 10 years of caring for him and grieving well. The journey also created a new passion in my life – helping people plan ahead for the one trip we will all take home. It helped me create a new vlog on my channel that I call, The Grief Brief.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Healing from my past has allowed me to use makeup artistry as a ministry for myself and others. I am a boutique offering for women who want wholeness versus flawless. I specialize in weddings, special events, and beauty therapy lessons. I also have professional programs for women called Boardroom Beauty and Courtroom Appeal. I also specialize in skincare and help my clients restore balance through holistic and conventional options. Good skin starts from within and makeup has the greatest longevity when skin is in balance.

How you look matters in the workplace and is specific to your career. Knowing who you are is the greatest weapon of influence to change the world and the breakdowns you see. I started Beauty Therapy with JenX on YouTube this past year where I produce a tip of the week to help women find all the pieces of their souls they have given away to others.

Part of my ethos is to teach my clients to claim their authentic beauty and to stop comparing themselves to all the fakes we see in today’s world. Integrity to me is the new black. Winning at all costs is not sustainable nor should it be a goal. I see many breaches of ethics in the beauty industry and call it the Bullshit of Beauty on my channel.

I end each of my videos with “be you, be true, and love what you do” because it is a matter of integrity to yourself. Just like any human, I am subject to my own frailty and have and currently make mistakes but part of being whole within yourself requires acknowledging that frailty. We are human and not humiliated. Doing the right thing when no one is looking matters, whether it gets a “like” or not.

My accomplishments include being featured in multiple publications as well as local and national television appearances. Some of my clients include The Dallas Cowboys, The Dallas Mavericks, and Sally Beauty Holdings.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Great question! Integrity is the value that matters most to me. Integrity means you are whole in your words, principles, and actions – to be complete from start to finish in all of these domains. Integrity doesn’t mean you are perfect rather it acknowledges your humanity and allows for the truth to matter even when you are humbled by your own breakdown in conduct. As Captain Picard says on Star Trek TNG, “There can be no justice so long as laws are absolute. Even life itself is an exercise in exceptions.” Social media changed the game for most career paths but especially in the beauty industry. The current narrative claims consequence can be avoided or matters not. Look at all the “flawless” images in media, “influencers” and advertising designed to sucker punch you into purchasing based off the advert. Another breakdown in integrity I see in the beauty industry is witnessing other artists undercut their rates and that has created a domino effect of bargain-basement pricing for services which greatly affects one’s ability to sustain income. If you don’t respect your business no one else will either. Our current culture is not something to aspire to be, in my opinion. Being yourself is the greatest weapon of influence to affect change in today’s culture. Go be you; we need you!
