Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Moore & Angela Harris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My sister (Angela) and I (Jennifer) started our Silent Book Club chapter out of a shared love for reading, community, and quiet connection. We’re both introverted book lovers who were craving a low-pressure way to enjoy stories together—without the deadlines, discussion questions, or pressure to finish a certain book.
When we found out about Silent Book Club, it felt like the kind of gathering we didn’t even realize we were missing. So we launched a chapter in Arlington and Grand Prairie, hoping others would feel the same.
We meet monthly at different local spots—coffee shops, wine bars, libraries, bookstores—anywhere that feels welcoming. It’s been amazing to watch our group grow into a mix of familiar faces and new ones each time. Everyone brings their own book, their own vibe, and somehow it all blends into this warm, calm, collective pause.
It’s more than just reading—it’s community, connection, and shared stillness. And we’re so grateful to be part of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a fun and fulfilling journey, but definitely not without a few bumps along the way. At first, we weren’t sure if people would actually show up—or if anyone would understand what a “silent” book club even was. We got a few confused looks when we explained it, like, “Wait… you just sit there and read?” Our go-to response is usually something like “You go to the movies and just sit there and watch, right?” LOL
Finding the right spots to meet has been a little trial and error too. Not every space is ideal for quiet reading, and we’ve had to test out different spots to find places that feel both welcoming and peaceful. And of course, juggling work, life, and everything else means we’ve had to stay flexible and give ourselves grace when things don’t go perfectly.
But honestly, every little challenge has helped us grow. We’ve learned to communicate better, lean on each other’s strengths, and most importantly, listen to what our group needs. The people who keep showing up and bringing their own energy to the space—that’s what keeps us going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day, I (Jennifer) work in finance and project management—aka spreadsheets, strategy, and keeping chaos in check. My sister (Angela) is a librarian with a background in instructional design, which basically means she’s a master at organizing information, curating meaningful content, and making learning (and reading!) feel effortless.
Together, we’re a solid mix of structure and story. I bring the planning energy, she brings the bookish brilliance, and somehow it all comes together to create something that feels easy, intentional, and fun.
We’re most proud of how we’ve built a space where people can just be—no pressure, no pretentiousness. Whether you’re deep into a novel or just finally picking up a book for the first time in a while, you’re welcome here.
What sets us apart? We’re not trying to lead the conversation or set reading goals. We’re here to host a vibe—calm, cozy, and community-focused. We believe in quiet connection, the joy of showing up as you are, and letting the stories speak for themselves.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We just want to say—Silent Book Club isn’t meant to replace traditional book clubs (we love those too!), it’s just another way to celebrate reading in whatever form works best for you.
Whether you’re into audiobooks, e-books, paperbacks, or graphic novels… whether you finish five books a month or haven’t picked one up in a while… this space is for you. Our Arlington chapter of Silent Book Club (@sbc_arlingtontx) is all about creating a calm, welcoming vibe for readers and celebrating the simple joy of reading together, but on our own terms.
