Conversations with Jesus Romero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus Romero.

Hi Jesus, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Alpha began in 2018 when we observed the need to start work with the Hispanic community, who were increasingly interested in approaching a house of faith that would provide them with tools to be able to develop a healthy lifestyle based on the word of God, the profession of faith and baptism. Our start comes with a connection group, meeting and visiting different families in the Corsicana, Texas area. And its surroundings in 2018, we met a few days of the week where we worship as a Hispanic community. In May 2019, we formally began our congregation in the city of Corsicana, Texas. Baptizing a group of people who today are part of our work team, and in this way, our services of the week began to be established, starting on Wednesdays with our prayer time being one of the fundamental pillars of our church; in the same way, we began to work with the women’s team. In January 2021, after the pandemic, we started at the First United Methodist Church Waxahachie church, which opened its doors for a new season as a church gave us a wider radius of action, where families could be baptized and get involved in the different areas of development in the ministry that were established.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The way to get to where we are today was not easy; what helped our Alpha community was perseverance and confidence.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our role in society as Alpha Hispanic ministry is to inspire and encourage. What characterizes us is that we love people, we do not want to change anyone, and all we want is for people to be able to have a connection with God. No religion, we want you to have an experience and that leads people to have a relationship.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There are many people in need of God’s love. And love people. It’s part of what we enjoy the most on this journey.
