Conversations with Joe Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Miller.

Hi Joe, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in the trade at age 20 doing side work with a friend of mine, whose dad had always been in the electrical industry as a foreman. That led to excitement and curiosity that made me apply to work at All Star electric in New Orleans Louisiana. I went to school at ABC trade school for three years and then got out of the trade for a little while and went back to work at restaurants, as a painter, duct cleaner, mechanic and the hospitality industry, it wasn’t healthy for me, I was making a lot of bad choices with the wrong crown and got into heavy drug use but God intervened
And spoke time. That’s when I decided I was gonna move back to Dallas where I was born. I worked for my uncle for about 18 months doing landscape work and the switched flipped and I decided I wanted to get back into electrical work. I started as an apprentice driving someone around who was a licensed electrician, but had wrecked their bucket truck and couldn’t drive. I learned a lot from this guy and got my journeyman Electrician’s license about a year and a half after that I served my two years as a journeyman electrician and studied my butt off while my wife was pregnant and got my masters license when my son was a couple months old. I worked for Legacy electric for about eight months as a Master Electrician as I built my business on the side part-time and full-time this year in February. It’s been a rollercoaster but I wouldn’t change it! I’ve got a team that helps me be better everyday!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s been lots of uncertainty, but I’ve always leaned on God and my work ethic to get me through that and it’s worth every minute

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a service electrician and the residential like commercial space. I’m known for my attention to detail and my communication skills, treating everyone with respect and listening with the intent to respond with understanding and compassion. I’m a Duromax portable generator representative/dealer/installer. I really enjoy helping people know that their home will be secure and energized with uncertain weather. I love doing panel upgrades, troubleshooting, and diagnostic, and lighting upgrades. The look and excitement that people get After some new lights really gets me excited too.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a member of the service loop electrical group, electricians round table, million dollar Electrician podcast and many other things that my personal development would not be where it is without
