Conversations with Jordan Shepler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Shepler.

Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My wife Natalia and started Forza Unltd. when a gym where she and I were coaching at was closing. I was in school to become a physical therapist and would come home on weekends, so she would take care of the daily coaching. We initially subleased from a gym in Arlington and recently moved to our own space, adding Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Natalia has been coaching fitness classes since she was a teenager and has competed all over the world in fitness aerobics. We have a great coaching staff and members ranging from 24-63 for the fitness classes and children’s and adult BJJ. We have partnered with a long-time training partner, Cooper Cardinale, and all coach jiu-jitsu classes. We are all black belts under Bruno “tank” Mendes with combined training of approx 33 years. We strive to build a great community for the different programs we offer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has a not. I used all of my financial aid money one semester to pay for the gym equipment, hoping it would pay off. Covid was also a challenge during the shutdown, but due to our great members, we were able to re-open, only losing a handful of people. Our current challenge is getting our name out there due to switching to a new location 7 months ago.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I (Jordan) am a physical therapist. I have been working in an outpatient clinic in Arlington. I enjoy working with all types of people. From post-op hip replacements to rehabbing an athlete after an injury, everyone is unique and I want them to reach their goals. Cooper is a full-time nurse working in the ICU for the past 3 years. He is very involved with helping his patients reach a level where they can safely be transferred to another unit. Natalia has been doing fitness her whole life and when not at the gym, she is taking care of our daughter Victoria. What sets us apart from others is that we have different coaching styles and our ability to help others change their lives for the better. We currently have some new ventures in the works to add to our program.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Whether starting out on your fitness or martial arts journey, the main thing to remember is to be consistent. You don’t need to train 7 days a week to get results. I’ve seen too many people think of either journey as a sprint and get burned out quickly and quit. Yes, there are going to be tough days when you don’t want to train. Just commit to something and stay consistent with it, whether it be 1 day per week or 3 days per week. Make it a habit.
