Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Graham
Hi Jordyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing locs at 17, and originally I didn’t want to do hair. However, once I started my loc training, I fell in love with it. I wanted to learn everything there was to know about locs and
natural hair care because I didn’t have this kind of education growing up natural. So, I wanted to do my part and learn to teach others how to properly care for their hair, and I have been perfecting my craft for almost 4 years now. I recently became an independent stylist after leaving the salon that taught me what I know after 3 years of training. I’m also starting my cosmetology school journey with aspirations of becoming a vivid hair artist. I got here today by being confident in my abilities, staying true to myself and my clients, and not being afraid to take chances. You miss 100% of the chances you don’t take.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been smooth, I went through what I think most people go through when they want to start their own business. I went through mental block and self doubt that kept me in a stagnant place for too long.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My specialty is locs at the moment and I will always love locs thats what i’m known for and thats what put me in the place i’m in today. I want to specialize more in creative colors with locs because I think it’s a beautiful way for self expression. I think what sets me apart is my personality and how much I care for all of my clients.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Anyone who knows me, knows i’m always in a book or listening to one. A few or my favorites from the year are the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, All about love by Bell Hooks, and Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki.
