Conversations with Joshua Blocker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Blocker.

Hi Joshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Honestly, all of this started with a vision and a decision to move in swift obedience. I simply believed I could do it—and it turns out, I really could.

When I started in 2019, I was afraid, had more questions than answers, and didn’t have all the information I thought I needed. What I did have was faith, conviction, and a willingness to take the next step. That radical obedience became the foundation for everything that followed.

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to accomplish things I once only imagined and, more importantly, positively impact the lives of countless people through creativity, storytelling, and service. The journey hasn’t been without challenges. I’ve experienced betrayal, loss, financial hardship, disappointment, and seasons where quitting would have been the easier option. But I kept going.

Today, I’m in a season of reimagining what Daway Entertainment can be. What began as a single vision continues to evolve as the borders expand and new opportunities emerge. The greatest reward isn’t the accomplishments themselves—it’s knowing that the work gives people hope, inspires them to believe in their own possibilities, and reminds them that their dreams are worth pursuing. For me, that’s the true measure of success.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road.

I’ve lost so much along the way—from my grandmother to my job—and found myself in the middle of an unexpected and difficult transition. When my grandmother passed away in 2022, I stopped writing altogether. Creativity became silent for me. I walked away from it. In many ways, I walked away from myself.

It was a scary season. For a long time, the thing that had always been a healthy escape became a reminder of my pain. Every blank page reminded me of what I had lost.

Life hit me so hard that I drifted from dreaming into simply surviving. I became pessimistic. Instead of imagining what was possible, I found myself bound by the limitations life had handed me. I’ve always considered myself a fighter, but after enough loss, disappointment, and heartbreak, there comes a point where you stop swinging and just let things be.

I felt like one of the walking dead—alive, but not really living.

One of the hardest questions I’ve ever had to face was: What happens when the creative becomes afraid of their own creativity? When the very gift that once brought life now feels painful to touch?

The answer is simple: it sucks.

But that season taught me something valuable. Creativity never actually left me—it was waiting on me to return. Today, I’m slowly but intentionally calling myself out of that pit. I’m learning how to dream again, create again, and trust again. The journey back hasn’t been easy, but every project, every story, and every person impacted reminds me that there’s still purpose on the other side of pain.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I often describe myself as a Renaissance Storyteller, Creative Catalyst, and Soulful Visionary.

My work spans multiple disciplines, including acting, writing for books, stage, television, and film, directing, creative direction, performance coaching, publishing, and speaking. While the titles may vary, the mission remains the same: I tell stories that help people see themselves, discover hope, and imagine new possibilities for their lives.

At my core, I specialize in storytelling, human connection, and transformation. Whether I’m on a stage, behind a camera, coaching talent, writing a book, or leading a creative project, I’m interested in one thing—creating experiences that move people.

What I’m most proud of is the impact. Awards, recognition, and accomplishments are wonderful, but nothing compares to hearing someone say that a story, performance, conversation, or project gave them hope when they were ready to give up. Much of my work is dedicated to giving voice to the voiceless and reminding people who feel overlooked, rejected, or forgotten that they matter.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail and intentionality. I care deeply about the audience’s experience. Every word, scene, moment, and creative decision serves a purpose. Whether it’s a book, a stage production, a film, or a coaching session, I want people to feel seen. I want them to escape, reflect, heal, laugh, dream, and leave better than they arrived.

More than creating content, I create room—room for people to process, grow, believe again, and ultimately see themselves differently. That’s the legacy I’m most interested in building.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One of the most influential books in my life is The Shack by William P. Young. I first picked it up as a kid, and it gave me permission to see pain differently. It showed me that wounds don’t have to be wasted—that trauma can become testimony and that our hardest experiences can be transformed into something that helps others heal. More than anything, it reinforced my love for storytelling and its ability to bring relatability, comfort, and hope to people who need it most.

Of course, the Bible remains one of the greatest resources in my life. Beyond being a spiritual guide, it’s a masterclass in storytelling, redemption, love, leadership, and human nature. I firmly believe stories have the power to change lives, and no book demonstrates that more profoundly than Scripture.

I’m also a huge creative nerd. I love learning through MasterClass courses, interviews, and podcasts. One of my favorites is We Sound Crazy, where industry professionals pull back the curtain on the music business and explore the creative processes behind some of our favorite artists and songs. I enjoy hearing how ideas are born, developed, refined, and ultimately shared with the world.

At my core, I’m fascinated by process. I love breaking things down, understanding how things work, and tracing ideas back to where they were first conceived. Whether it’s a story, a song, a film, a business, or a movement, I’m always asking, “How did this come to be?” For me, learning isn’t just about acquiring information—it’s about understanding the journey from imagination to manifestation.
