Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Braden.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out by building refurbished PVS-14s to help pay for college. By 2014, I was making enough money it couldn’t be considered a hobby anymore, so I created Superior Tactical. Since then, we have grown steadily with a focus on trying to keep costs down for consumers. We generally pay the same prices as other night vision companies for most components, so the major focus is controlling costs in other areas to keep prices as low as possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge has always been forecasting demand. A lot of the components we use have extended lead times of a year or more. Because of this, there have been times when we had to much product, and then other times when we were short of what was needed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think we are best known for our prices. The past few years have been difficult to keep prices down, but it has been a major focus since that is what we are known for.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk we have taken and continue to take is increasing our order volumes. By increasing our order volumes, we can try to negotiate lower prices, thereby avoiding price increases as much as possible for consumers. This is tough because small increases in order volume don’t really improve pricing, so we have to make significant increases. Then we have the challenge of trying to find new avenues and customers to sell to.
