Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Tejeda.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my start in the industry when my high school’s junior media technology class produced a feature film entitled HORROR HIGH. I not only starred in this film as the leading role, but also composed the original soundtrack, associate produced, and did rewrites on the script. HORROR HIGH was later picked up by ITN Distribution and is on shelves worldwide at Walmart! From there I went on to form a production company (Out Of Touch Productions) with one of my best friends and star in another feature film distributed by ITN (METEOR: FIRST IMPACT). Along with acting, I’ve also gotten a handful of score composing gigs; music became a second passion of mine when I started working on the OST for HORROR HIGH, that project led me to experimenting with sound and finding a way to create something totally different from other soundtracks you’d typically hear. Recently I was nominated for Best Actor at the Longhorn Film Festival for my performance in HORROR HIGH (which won the BEST FEATURE FILM award) and, my production company is producing HORROR HIGH 2, a direct sequel to the film we started shooting back in 2019. I wrote the script and also intend to reprise the role I played in the previous film!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the biggest obstacles I’ve had to overcome numerous times is burnout. I find that I tend to overwork myself which leads me to a burnout that lasts months. I’ve recently learned to take a step back, relax, and trust the process in order to not drive myself crazy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in: Directing, acting, screenwriting, producing, and composing! I am proud of everything I do but right now I’d say I’m most proud of my score composing. Music is something I taught myself along the way 100%, so to see it take off and get me so many opportunities is truly amazing.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’d say one thing that tends to surprise people is how young I am and how young I started doing what I do now! I started producing and score composing when I was only 17 years old and now, I’m continuing on that road at the age of 20!
