Conversations with Kendall Krebs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Krebs.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Creativity has played a crucial role in my life. Growing up, the only classes I enjoyed were Art, and a photography unit in a Gateway to Technology class in middle school. And I didn’t grow up a Christian, but happened to find myself in church at 15 years old and ended up at a service opportunity painting murals at an orphanage in Mexico. It was at this orphanage, painting stories about Jesus that I had never heard before where I took a look around at the most joyous children I’d ever met in my life and knew that Jesus had a plan for my life and I needed to give all my desires and worries to Him. Since then, God has continued to move in my life in great ways. I hadn’t planned to go to college, but ended up pursuing a Business degree anyways. While looking for a job to support myself through college, I happened upon a graphic design internship. Though I had never considered pursuing a job in a creative field, I realized that this was the best place for me and the Lord had been preparing me for it all along. In this internship, I was able to hone my skills as a creative in graphic design, photography, social media, and more. I loved it so much that I added two minors, Art and Digital Media Studies, to my degree plan. I graduated in December of 2023, and was promoted to a full-time graphic designer. After getting married in January of 2024, my husband helped to encourage me to begin my own photography business which has provided me the opportunity to work with so many lovely people. With each gallery I deliver, I also get to send scripture or prayers to each client. I have confidence that God has placed me where I am today and I give Him all the glory because I never could have dreamed of the career that He has provided for me!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. When it came time to graduate college, I was interviewing around the Metroplex. I would get far into the interview process, and then not get the job at the last interview. I was starting to think I wouldn’t find a job in a creative field and have to move on to something else. I was confused why everything in my life had led up to a creative role, but now I couldn’t find a job – what was God doing? After many interviews, and several odd AI job scams… I was promoted in my current role from an intern into a full-time position, which I had previously been told wouldn’t work out but was what I had been praying for all along.
In my own photography business, there’s been slow seasons where nerves started to creep in, but every photographer has their slow seasons and it just took me a minute to learn this. I’m only a little bit over a year into running my own business, I have lots to learn, and lots of growing room! With my photography, and some additional freelancing (graphic design and social media), as a sidegig, my husband and I were able to pay off all of our federal student debt which was a huge win!
So of course, there’s been some struggles but I have no doubt that God was providing the whole way through it!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a full-time graphic designer for Tarleton State but my sidegigs are what I’m more known for. I have my own photography business, Krebs Creative. Additionally, I run Restore Church’s social media accounts.

I am most proud of my photography as this is the creative outlet where I feel most satisfied and how I connect with God the best. Photography helps me see each of my client’s lives like the most beautiful cinematic movie and capture for them to see as well. Something about taking a photo of someone right where they are in these big life moments just puts me in awe of how good God is. From weddings, to maternity shoots, to an at-home family session, there is just so much good in this world that gets missed and I love to capture it all. I love getting to preserve each of these moments for my clients to look back on because we all know how time moves so fast.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
You might have seen this one coming, but definitely the Bible. Even though it was written so long ago, these stories of Jesus’ life extend beyond time and apply directly to the situations I still go through now. Through the Bible, I have gotten to know the man of Jesus and how to be more like Him in order to live life according to God’s will, which is the best way I could ever live my life.
Another book, which I’m currently going through and probably will yearly is ‘The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry”. As a woman working 2-3 jobs at any moment, I am extraordinarily busy. The issue is I will prioritize working and business over everything else because I love what I do so much. This book has begun to teach me how to slow down and love others better. My favorite line of the book so far states that love and hurry can’t coexist. The author touches how it’s in his most hurried moments that he is the most unloving and unkind to his family.
