Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenray Thompson
Hi Kenray, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, my name is Kenray Thompson I am the owner of the great 21 Cigar Lounge located on the Southwest Side of Fort Worth Tx. I’ve always had the love for cigars since I can remember back when I was in high school. One of my friend dads smoked cigars, he was able to sneak me one of his cigars. Ever since that day I’ve been hooked. I was maybe like in the 10th or 11th grade at the time. I didn’t smoke that much in high because I played football and basketball. Oh, but when I left for college, it was every weekend after our football games. So, after I left college back in 2001, I moved back home to Ft. Worth, I really didn’t smoke much if not at all for a while until um around 2015. I was driving home and just so happen I saw this cigar lounge in my neighborhood. I made a U-turn and pulled up and got me a cigar. So, long story short I was at that cigar lounge every Friday night. Fast forward to 2019, i was driving home from work and was thinking huh I’ll like to have my own business one day. light bule went off in my head and said what about a cigar lounge. I talked to my wife about it, got her approval and we planned, looked at building for 2yrs to finally in 2021 we found a building. So, it took us 2yrs to open our business and here we are today 4yrs later. God is Good!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road nor easy. The struggle is just trying to keep the business going. You are going to have some GOOD day, and you are going to have some BAD day. Just as long as the good day outweigh the bad days at the end of each month, we’re GOOD!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My real “paying job” I am a manager at food distribution in Ft Worth. I’ve been there for 14yrs. I work my real job from 8am-5pm. I leave there and work my Cigar Lounge from 5ish to 11pm. We are known for our hard work, dedication and great hospitality.
