Conversations with Kimberly Talbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Talbert.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been creating custom baskets for years for family and friends as gifts. In 2023 I decided i needed to work for myself so I could take care of my family. On June 8th, 2023 I created my business Blessings in a Basket.
I create baskets for the receiver. I want the basket to speak to the receiver for the giver. I love doing these. It is a great feeling when I learn the person who received the basket loves it.
Not all of my baskets are actual baskets. I love to use things that are unconventional as a basket but are something functional the person can use.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This business has its ups and downs. The biggest obstacle is cost. Many people today want you to create a basket for nothing. They don’t understand what it takes to create one. They can’t believe you would charge for your time creating it. All they see is they can walk into big chain stores and buy a basket for pennies on the dollar. They don’t consider the fact I create the basket for their special person..

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to create my designs. I can come up with some unique ideas. One of my proudest works, was a Christmas basket. A gentleman brought me 3 village houses with a cream and sugar dish. He wanted me to put a basket together. Instead of sticking the items in a basket I created a Christmas decoration for the person to use as a server for cream and sugar during the holidays. It came out really nice!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I found that networking locally through your city or towns Chamber of Commerce helps a lot. I am a member of the Weatherford Chamber and at one time was a member of the Parker County Chamber. By networking with your local businesses your name gets out there.
