Today we’d like to introduce you to Koffee Hill.
Hi Koffee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started out by me being a shy young girl coming into my teenage years and my mother wanted me to come out of my shell a bit so she enrolled me into modeling and acting classes at John Robert Powers in Chicago, Illinois, and I thrived. Upon completion of the program, my modeling coach Mrs. Clark told my parents that she believed I was a natural in front of the camera and they should consider putting me in modeling. From that moment, it all began. I started doing local pageants, which then escalated to national pageants, and then I slowly started to build my portfolio. That was the start of this magical journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a relatively smooth ride however, there were some trials and tribulations that came knocking at my front door early on in my career I had to learn how to accept rejection at an early age. I have dealt with colorism and body shaming in this industry. I’ve also experienced sexual harassment or being blackballed for not taking sexual advances from directors or producers. It’s been a journey a journey that I don’t know how it would have turned out if I didn’t have my spiritual foundation and a mother that was my biggest support.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist and to be more specific I’m a model/actress/musician. I would have to say my specialty would be modeling and music though; I am however a trained actress. Believe it or not my first love is music many people would assume that my first love would be modeling or acting because that’s what they see me doing the most; but I grew up with a home recording studio and my mother‘s basement and I wrote everything from gospel to R&B to hip-hop to slam poetry. Music is where my love for this entire industry first began. I would say I am most proud of the fact that I never stopped believing in my dreams. I’m in my 30s now; my dream started when I was a teenager and there have been some times where people underestimated me because of my age; but, I never stopped. I did take a hiatus when I got married and had my son, but now my son is a teenager and I am able to continue pursuing my dreams with my son being my number one cheerleader.
Any big plans?
In regards to my professional career, one of my biggest plans for the near future is becoming a sag actor and continuing my training; that is something that will never change no matter how long you have been in the industry. There is always room for sharpening your skills and developing your craft.I also plan on acquiring a dialect coach because I would love to learn British vernacular an accent as well as native African and Spanish languages accents. Not only would that increase my potential to book work. I also think it’s a cool flex.
