Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashonna Wilson
Hi Lashonna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, and moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. From as early as I can remember, I’ve been naturally drawn to the world of art, particularly abstract forms. Fashion design, materials, textures, geometry, and architectural structures have all been sources of fascination for me. My journey as a creator truly began when I started painting abstract art on large canvases to decorate my home. This creative exploration sparked a desire to design unique, unorthodox art pieces, but expressed through fashion. That’s how Nox… was born — Nox, meaning “Goddess of the Night,” is a brand that brings together my love for art and fashion.
In 2016, while working as a night-shift nurse, a surge of creativity led me to explore leather as a medium, inspiring designs for jewelry and accessories I couldn’t find in stores. I began crafting leather earrings, necklaces, clutch bags, and wallets that combined boldness with individuality. My mission was to create pieces that capture imagination and embody artistry. Sometimes, I even add abstract leather accents to shoes/boots for a unique touch. Today, I’ve embraced my calling as both a creator and an artist. Last year, I left my position in nursing management to pursue this dream full-time, allowing my soul to be nourished by creativity. Life is short, and I’m determined not to leave with any regrets — I’m here, making art that feeds my spirit.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my initial challenges was finding the right way to define Nox… — determining whether it should be considered fashion or art. Ultimately, Nox… forged its own path as “Fashion-Art.” Each piece is a wearable canvas, a one-of-a-kind, statement piece designed for those open to unique forms of expression. Once I embraced this identity for the brand, the path became smoother. Creating abstract jewelry and accessories has brought me peace and a profound sense of purpose. Knowing I’m on the right path is liberating, and I’m immensely grateful for the incredible people I’ve met along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in creating one-of-a-kind, abstract, bold, jewelry and accessories crafted from genuine leather, including textures, hides, and metallics, often paired with denim. Each Nox… piece is hand-stitched with care and attention to detail, resulting in items that are as durable as they are distinctive.
What makes me most proud is that each item is crafted without a physical pattern; instead, I work from drafts formed in my mind, translating pure vision into tangible reality. Nox… is more than just a brand—it’s an expression of unfiltered creativity. My pieces reflect my dedication to craftsmanship and individuality.
What sets Nox… apart is that it isn’t bound by conventional designs or mass production; every piece is unique and intended to evoke a reaction. I believe that an artist who stands out is one who offers not just a product, but an experience—each accessory is crafted with purpose, to make a bold statement and inspire a connection with those who dare to wear something uniquely different.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is invaluable, both personally and professionally. My mentor is my husband, whose wisdom continually pushes me to reach my potential. My advice is to seek mentors whose values, goals, and aspirations resonate with yours, mentors who challenge you to think beyond conventional limits. Having more than one mentor can also be beneficial, as each offers a unique perspective and guidance. Networking authentically is key; attend meetings and workshops, even those outside your comfort zone. Growth often lies in discomfort, so don’t let fear or familiarity stop you from exploring new paths and discovering your purpose.
