Conversations with LaTonya Michelle Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTonya Michelle Ray.

Hi LaTonya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am the 3rd Born Child of Roy Melton Ray and Vera Jewel Adams-Ray. Raised in Tyler, Texas, and graduated from John Tyler High School. My parents raised me to trust in God and to always believe in myself. There was absolutely nothing I couldn’t do in life. I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Tyler Junior College. While at Tyler Junior College, I began an over 14-year career with Walmart. While with Walmart, some of my most greatest achievements has been the opportunity to help others by donating to the Salvation Army, United Way, and through our Scholarship Foundation founded in loving memory of our late father, Mr. Roy Melton Ray.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Life has certainly had its challenges, particularly in 2010 when I lost my grandmother, Mattie C. Davis-Adams, the matriarch of our family. In 2011, we lost my grandfather, James K. Adams. And in 2012, I lost my father, Roy Melton Ray. However, through prayer and the help of my mother I have been able to push past the hard times and allow those times to make me stronger. God has truly been my strength.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My hard work and dedication has been the primary reason for my success even with Walmart. Throughout my employment, I’ve taken pride in having a perfect attendance record. I am most proud of a successful career with Walmart and allowing those resources to help me give back in the community. We have donated toys for Christmas to children in need annually. The feeling of being able to help others has truly helped me overcome my own difficult times in life.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being Loyal, Dependable, and Trustworthy are a few of my most important characteristics that has truly made me successful in life.
