Conversations with Leticia & Jhoanna Velazco & Mora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia & Jhoanna Velazco & Mora.

Hi Leticia & Jhoanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
With a combined 20 years of experience, Joahnna and Leticia are far from newcomers in the world of bridal alterations — but together, they’re creating something completely new. Their studio, After the Yes, is the result of two parallel journeys, years of dedication, and the shared belief that every bride deserves to feel flawless in the dress that carries her down the aisle.

For Joahnna, sewing has been part of her story since childhood. Raised in a family of skilled seamstresses, she grew up surrounded by thread, fabric, and the quiet magic of transforming raw materials into beauty. Eventually, she launched her own alterations brand, Metamorphosis, building a loyal client base and refining the signature precision she is now known for. As her business grew, so did her vision. She knew she wanted to create something bigger — a space where her craft could flourish alongside someone who loved the work as much as she did.

Leticia, meanwhile, began her fashion journey at just 14 years old, diving into formal design studies long before most people discover their calling. She graduated in 2017 and quickly built a reputation as both a freelance designer and an exceptional bridal specialist. With over 1,000 wedding dresses under her needle, her experience is unmatched. Brides trusted her not just to alter their gowns, but to elevate them — sculpting silhouettes, refining details, and creating fits that felt custom-made.
When their paths finally crossed, it felt natural to join forces.

Their shared craftsmanship, deep industry experience, and passion for serving brides made the partnership effortless. What began as professional respect quickly became a collaborative vision — one that blossomed into After the Yes, a studio devoted to giving brides an intimate, personalized, and highly skilled bridal fitting experience.
Together, Joahnna and Leticia don’t just tailor dresses — they tailor confidence. They listen deeply, work meticulously, and treat every gown like the centerpiece of a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Brides come to their studio for expert craftsmanship, but stay for the warmth, trust, and reassurance that only seasoned artisans can provide.

Their combined expertise, their shared love for the art of sewing, and their commitment to celebrating real women make After the Yes more than a business — it’s a legacy in motion.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road.
One of our biggest struggles wasn’t technical—it was internal. For years, both of us battled with a lack of confidence and an inability to truly see the value in our own work. We were talented, experienced, and dedicated, but we didn’t always believe we were worthy of stepping into our own spotlight.

Working in fast-paced bridal environments in the past sometimes made us feel like supporting characters instead of the artists we truly were. We knew how much skill we brought, yet we doubted whether we could build something of our own or whether brides would trust us independently.

But everything changed when we started working together.
Collaboration became a mirror. In each other, we saw the talent, passion, and worth we couldn’t always recognize in ourselves. As we combined our strengths and supported one another, our confidence grew. Building this business together helped us finally understand the value of our craftsmanship and the importance of believing in ourselves.
The struggles were real, but so was the transformation.

Now, After the Yes stands as proof that when women uplift each other, they rise higher than they ever could alone.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At After the Yes, we specialize in bridal alterations, gown transformations, and custom fit sculpting designed to make every bride feel confident and beautiful on her wedding day. With over 20 years of combined experience — from generational seamstress training to formal fashion design education — we approach every gown with both technical precision and artistic understanding.

We’re best known for creating flawless, natural-looking fits and for offering a personalized, calming experience during what can be a stressful time. We don’t rush our brides. We listen. We ask questions. We make sure they feel seen, supported, and excited throughout the process.

What truly sets us apart is our commitment to bringing each bride’s vision to life. Brides come to us with dreams, ideas, and sometimes even insecurities — and we take the time to understand exactly what they want. Whether it’s reshaping a silhouette, elevating design details, or giving a gown entirely new life, we make it happen with intention and care.
We’re proud to create more than beautifully tailored dresses; we create moments where brides look in the mirror and finally feel like the best version of themselves. That transformation — both in the gown and in the bride’s confidence — is the heart of what we do.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
When it comes to resources that support our personal growth and our work, both of us gravitate toward anything that strengthens self-awareness, mindset, and creativity.
Joahnna loves reading self-care and self-improvement books, listening to empowering podcasts, and diving into business-oriented content that helps her learn, grow, and evolve as an entrepreneur. But more than anything, she finds her deepest clarity in nature.
Being outdoors helps her ground herself, reconnect spiritually, and stay centered in both life and business.
Leticia is very similar — nature is one of her biggest sources of peace and inspiration. Whether it’s a walk, fresh air, or simply quiet time outside, it allows her to recharge and stay connected to herself. She also enjoys staying active, because for her, movement is healing. It helps clear her mind, release stress, and keep her energy strong

For both of us, being in tune with nature and in tune with our bodies is essential. Those moments remind us that growth isn’t just professional — it’s spiritual and emotional. They help us show up for our brides with calm energy, open hearts, and the kind of presence you can only give when you’ve taken time to care for yourself first.
These practices have taught us that healing, grounding, and self-love are just as important as skill — and they’re a big part of why we pour so much heart into our work.
