Today we’d like to introduce you to List Of Switches.
Hi List, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
All of us attend the School of Rock in McKinney, which is where we all met. Initially, Liam Geraghty and I (Elliot Garven) decided that we wanted to start a band outside of the school. We reached out to some friends for the band which included: Ryan Bretado, Ethan Dooley, and Sebin James. We rehearsed for roughly six months with this lineup which actually included two bassists. However, Ethan decided that a second bassist didn’t quite fit the sound of the band, and made the decision to leave the band. Despite Ethan’s departure, we carried on, writing and rehearsing for roughly year and a half. Up until this point, we had not decided on a name, which we really needed for playing gigs. There were no names that really stuck out to us, but eventually we decided on the name List of Switches. After this naming ordeal, we worked tirelessly to secure our first gig. For several months we had zero luck. Eventually we signed up for an open mic night at The Celt in Downtown McKinney. This show opened so many other opportunities, which leads us to where we are today; scheduling regular shows and selling out local venues.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say for the most part the road has been smooth but tedious. The most difficult part was trying to find early shows. After our open mic performance, we put together a DIY show at a fruit basket packing warehouse in Richardson. (It sounds odd but it’s true!) Beyond scheduling early shows, our journey to where we are at now has been relatively smooth-sailing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are an alternative metal/alternative rock band, but I think our specialty is a unique blend of funk, hard rock, blues, complicated time signatures, and thrash metal. Our best known song “Iguana” is a great example of our versatility across all of these genres.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My favorite part about McKinney is how supportive the community acts towards artists. Unfortunately, McKinney isn’t home to many heavy artists, and many local venues prioritize country or folk artists.
