Conversations with Lori Sapio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Sapio

Hi Lori, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in photography began with capturing the beauty of architecture in the Chicagoland suburbs, a love that eventually me to receive my BFA in photography from NIU in 1997. It was working under renowned photographers such as Richard Avedon, Arnold Newman, and Nan Goldin that greatly influenced my work and helped shape my unique style.

Currently based in both Chicago and Dallas, I have had the opportunity to work in diverse locations around the world. My work has been featured in numerous publications, art galleries and album covers since the late 90s.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
You need to constantly pivot while maintaining your voice in order to stay current. After lockdown, the luxury business didn’t really come back in Chicago. I decided to start coming back to Dallas and opened my studio here as well. Once a struggle arises, you find alternative solutions to keep going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
With over 30 years of experience and a portfolio that has graced the pages of Vogue, Maxim, Harper’s Bazaar, Playboy, and more, I bring a world of expertise to every shoot. As a seasoned photographer based in both Chicago and Dallas, I specialize in capturing compelling imagery for portraits, corporate branding, fashion, and the music industry. My work is a vital tool for advertising, marketing, and establishing a strong visual identity that resonates with my client’s target audience.

I understand that a photograph tells a story and sets the tone for what’s to come. This is exactly what I deliver—images that are not only visually stunning but also aligned with my client’s brand’s vision. Whether they need executive portraits, corporate photos, fashion editorials, or music photography, my approach is to create timeless, impactful images that highlight the essence of the subject.

I also offer creative direction to ensure every aspect of their shoot is handled with precision and care. My photography is known for its simplicity and focus, capturing the beauty and essence of each subject without distraction, making it ideal for everything from corporate headshots to fashion editorials and PR campaigns.

Having worked with businesses, agencies, and individuals who demand the best, my dedication to showcasing their vision is unmatched.

What’s next?
This year I will be putting out my first photography book, about a cheese monger in the Midwest that has been in the family for over 100 years. I will then be putting out a photography book that includes my work in the music scene in the 1990s.

I’m also in search of an art gallery to show works of mine shot in the Middle East and Thailand 15-20 years ago.

Those changes are going back to my roots, I started as a fine art photographer. I’ve missed that world, and am excited to jump back into it. Also excited to be photographing fgi Dallas’s Fall gala. This will be my second year, can’t wait for it!
