Conversations with Marcus Tamez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Tamez.

Hi Marcus , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out in 2005 with just a idea and a dream. It all started when my brother and I started a rap group called Heretic Klick in 2005, we started producing music in our garage, we really didn’t think our music would take off but it did. We started giging thru out the dfw and started to get our songs distributed in 2006. With our new found success with our music i realized we needed a record label, so of instead of signing to a big label I decided we should start our own. I did most of the leg work on terms of graphic design, promotion, marketing and booking and quickly learned that the business is alot more then just music. It’s a very complicated array of different feilds that collab together to make the music come to life. I found my niche and was able to do most of the things we needed to be successful. I took all the knowledge I had and offically opened Rabble Rouza Records in 2016. We opened up with the idea of helping young aspiring artist, so we offered a music crash course class to help artist set up there career with a very strong foundation. The class consist of distribution, graphic design, music marking and recording engineering. We also have a very professional recording studio and a very talented engineer. We are located at 110 Randol Mill Street Arlington Texas 76011.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road started off smooth and we were doing great and then covid hit and as we all know the challenges of business and staying open hit hard. So we offered online classes and online recording sessions although it was challenging we persevered and made it past covid. Again things started to move Smooth and things were starting yo look up Rabble Rouza Records was doing great and our group Heretic Klick was doing even better with over 50million streams total on Spotify alone, we were rocking. And then in the beginning of 2024 we got hit with an unexpected challenge. We were part of a massive scheme where a supposedly legit company that sold and licensed beats was found guilty of fraud and copyright infringement. We had purchased and licensed over 80 beats over a course of 13 years with them and were told we couldn’t use those beats on digital streaming platforms. We were forced to take down over 75 songs. It really put us back in terms of streaming royalties and fans loved the songs we had to take down, we had a barrage of messages thru our social media asking what happened to our songs and why can’t they find em.
We had a continuous number of monthly listeners on Spotify for over 12years of 102,000 monthly listeners that contributed to our revenue witch dwindled to 16,000. We ended up settling with the copyright owners of all the beats and got clearance to use them for promotional use and they could love forever on YouTube music. All of that of course costed us alot of money from attorney fees to loss of streaming revenue. But we did not give up we still produce and recorded new music. We took it as a hard lesson and are sharing our experiences with other artist in hopes to help them not make the same mistake. With the music industry constantly changing and many online companies out there it’s hard to know which are legit and which are not.
