Conversations with Meenakshi Anipindi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meenakshi Anipindi.

Meenakshi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
During my childhood, I have won many awards in India as a student. I continued my education in classical Music and completed my Master’s in Music with a Gold Medal. I am fortunate to have great teachers who were instrumental in mentoring my Classical Indian music knowledge theoretically and as a performer. These music skills helped me start my career as a performer and a job in All India Radio. I subsequently achieved prestigious certification levels in Classical Music awarded by Govt. of India through its Culture and Communications organization. Years later, I am married to my dear husband and immigrated to the United States. My subsequent years were discovering the community, engage and help in related volunteer activities. I have always been passionate about teaching and started a school to educate and enlighten students in the art of Indian Classical Music.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
An accident took me out physically, and I could not continue my career for a while. Then, after my kids were born, I had to concentrate on raising a family with two young kids. Safeguarding my vocal health with North Texas allergies also has been a great challenge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a performer of South Indian Classical Music. In addition, I run a school in the DFW metroplex, educating and enlightening students interested in this art form. I am passionate about educating young generations in Indian Music and actively champion and volunteer in community events that promote such. I am proud of advancing this art form to thousands in the last decade. I am also proud of introducing and offering a structured curriculum to students that can eventually earn them a certificate in Indian Music through reputed institutions in India.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Passion and Perseverance will always prevail. This observation is from the lessons learned through my career and as an educator teaching a generation of kids with no formal training in the language, meaning, and theory of an entirely new art form. This feat is no smaller than teaching a completely new language, and it amazes me to see its progression over the years.
