Conversations with Meissa Negrelli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meissa Negrelli.

Hi Meissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Brazil and moved to Dallas about 20 years ago. I’ve raised my son here, and I truly love the quality of life, the people, and the opportunities. I began my career in marketing for an international movie theater company, but after key life experiences, I felt a deep calling to help others. I pursued a master’s in clinical mental health counseling and now work in downtown Dallas at The Source Counseling as a counselor associate under Amira Sergie. I work with adults and couples, helping them navigate challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationships. I find deep meaning in guiding others toward their own growth, and I believe helping couples strengthens families. Though I miss my family in Brazil, I’m fortunate to visit them each year, keeping my roots close while serving the community I deeply care for. On the side, I love spending time with family, cooking Italian food, working out, dining at restaurants, and traveling. I am a morning person and enjoy a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While my move to the U.S. 20 years ago was smooth, as with any relocation, it required some adaptation—being away from family and friends, rebuilding my social life, and settling into a new environment. The real challenge, though, came when I faced family changes and then chose to shift careers. At that time, I was home raising my son, so returning to school and with English as a second language, felt like starting fresh. Yet I grew from that experience, overcame my fears, and excelled in my master’s program. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it—and now, I’m so happy to be seeing clients and making a difference.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m deeply invested in my clients and genuinely care about each unique person. I believe every person’s process requires tailored attention. To offer the best, I immerse myself in continual study, whether through philosophy, the foundations of human nature, or the works of experienced and respected professionals in the field. This helps me grow and refine my understanding of clients’ struggles. My practice is a blend of heartfelt empathy, continuous learning, and an offering of a truly individualized path to each person I work with.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I truly feel fortunate. Throughout my whole life, I’m thankful to God for placing the right people in my path—friends, professors, supervisors, family, and everyone who’s inspired, motivated, and has believed in me. They’ve given me opportunities that keep me going. I’m still on my path, still growing, with more goals ahead. I’m a lucky person, and I’m grateful for every step.
