Conversations with Michael Dixon Sr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Dixon Sr..

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I first started, I had no money. I was young, ambitious, and knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I just had ideas and was determined to figure out how to turn them into something real.

I taught myself everything. I learned graphic design by watching YouTube videos. I learned web design and how to build websites the same way. I studied email marketing, advertising, data, analytics, sales, and anything else I thought could help me build a business. I took free classes at local community colleges and attended any entrepreneurship or business program I could find. As more information became available online, I kept learning there too. If there was something I did not understand, I researched it, practiced it, and stayed with it until I could do it myself.

Eventually, people started noticing my work and asking me to help with their ideas and businesses. One client turned into another, and what started as me trying to create an opportunity for myself became an opportunity to help other people build something of their own.

That journey is what Mike Builds Brands represents. It is my personal brand, but it is also a way for me to work directly with entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners who may be where I was when I started. They have the idea and the ambition, but they may not have the money, connections, knowledge, or clear direction yet.

Affordability is a major part of my mission because I remember what it was like to have a vision and no money to invest in it. I want people with great ideas to have access to a beautiful, professional platform without being charged an amount that prevents them from ever getting started. I also do not want to simply give someone a logo or website and send them on their way. I want to give them the information, knowledge, and tools they need to actually be successful.

Today, I help people build their brands, websites, marketing systems, sales funnels, email campaigns, and overall business strategies. I have helped hundreds of people do that over the years. My goal is to help them take what is in their heads, bring it to life, and turn it into something that can grow, generate revenue, and create real opportunities for them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles was starting with no money, no connections, and no real roadmap. I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I did not have anyone showing me what steps to take. I had to learn through research, trial and error, and making plenty of mistakes along the way.

Being self-taught meant I was learning the creative side and the business side at the same time. It was not enough to know how to design a logo or build a website. I also had to learn how to find clients, price my services, manage projects, market myself, understand data, and turn creative work into a sustainable business.

Affordability has also been one of the most challenging parts of my mission. I want to help people who have great ideas but may not have large budgets. At the same time, I have had to learn how to make that mission sustainable without undervaluing my work or stretching myself too thin. Finding that balance has taken time.

Another challenge has been keeping up with how quickly marketing and technology change. The tools, platforms, and strategies that worked a few years ago may not work today. I have had to stay committed to learning, adjusting, and teaching myself new skills throughout every stage of my career.

There have been setbacks, slow periods, difficult clients, and moments when I questioned whether entrepreneurship was worth it. But every challenge forced me to become better at what I do. It also helped me understand the people I serve because I know what it feels like to be building something while trying to figure everything out. That is why I try to give my clients more than a service. I give them honest guidance, practical information, and the support I wish I had when I was starting.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Through Mike Builds Brands, I work directly with entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners to help them take an idea and turn it into a complete, professional business platform.

My work includes branding, graphic design, websites, sales funnels, email marketing, advertising, automations, CRM systems, and overall marketing strategy. I specialize in looking at the entire business and figuring out what is missing. Sometimes a person thinks they only need a logo or a website, but the real problem is that they do not have a clear message, a way to collect leads, or a system for turning attention into customers.

I am known for being able to take what someone sees in their head, even when they have trouble explaining it, and bring it to life. I do not just make things look good. I help people understand how the pieces work together and how to use what we create to grow their business and generate revenue.

What sets me apart is that I understand both the creative and business sides of building a brand. I can design the platform, develop the marketing strategy, study the data, and explain it all in a way that makes sense. I also share the information. I do not believe in keeping clients dependent on me by hiding the process. I want them to understand their business and feel more confident about making decisions.

Affordability is also a major part of what separates Mike Builds Brands from many other branding and marketing companies. Professional branding can cost thousands of dollars before an entrepreneur ever makes their first sale. I know what it feels like to have a strong idea and no money, so I try to create realistic ways for people to get the quality they need without being priced out before they can begin.

What I am most proud of is that I have helped hundreds of people over the years bring their ideas to life. For some, it was their first logo or website. For others, it was restructuring an existing business, building a marketing system, or finding a clearer path to revenue. Seeing someone go from being unsure about their idea to confidently presenting and growing their business is still one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating opportunities, both for my family and for the people I serve.

I want my family to live a life where we are empowered to freely walk in our purpose by helping other people. We get to build a meaningful life for ourselves while using what we have learned to help someone else do the same.

That belief carries directly into my work. I know there are talented people with great ideas who never get started because they believe professional branding, marketing, and business guidance are out of their reach. It matters to me that they have access to the tools, information, and support they need without being priced out.

Success is important, but impact matters more to me. I want the work I do to help someone create income, support their family, build confidence, and turn an idea into something that can change their life. That is what makes the work meaningful for me.
