Conversations with Michael Kelly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kelly.

Michael Kelly

Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my journey in 2006, where I took Drama class and Public Speaking in Junior year of high school. I didn’t pursue it 100% because I was focused on basketball. Fast forward to 2010 I had a new love for writing plays. I loved to tell stories for the glory of God. 2013 I began my acting career. I was pursuing acting in NY. I loved the experience and opportunity, and one day as I was on my way home from a gig, I heard God say “now it’s time to do what I called you to do. I begin to write plays after plays. 2015 I directed my first play and 9 years later I directed, acted, and written 6 plays going on 7 this coming July.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anything we do in life that’s worth it, isn’t always smooth. There will always be obstacles because that’s how God builds our character.

One of my biggest obstacles, was trying to perform when I’m low on money. I know it’s what God called me to do, but where are the resources? Where are the people to help pull this off? These were questions I asked myself, but God always have a plan. We just have to continue being obedient and let God be God.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a writer, actor and director. I have written 3 books (Man Up, Die To Self, Money Talks) I have also written 6 plays (Love Me Through The Bad, Who Has Your Attention, What’s The Rush, The Choices We Make, Money Talks and Beyond The Surface.) and one short film (The Bridge)

What I’m most proud of is my ambition and determination. Even through the storms of life, I’m still pushing because I know God has a plan.

What sets me apart is that I don’t do this for me or any gain, I do this for God and others. Many people come to my shows or read my books with a heavy heart and just need something encouraging. So I take myself out the way so that lives can be changed.
