Conversations with Michelle Carranza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Carranza.

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our story started as sisters who shared the same dream of building something that mattered and brought change. I originally planned to go to school for fashion merchandising and buying, but life took an unexpected and exciting turn when we decided to build something of our own. What began as a small creative idea quickly became our shared passion.

We started BRACHA with handmade, natural-stone beaded bracelets. Each one unique, one-of-a-kind, and made out of a spare bedroom. We spent years doing everything we could to grow: expanding the line, trunk shows, local pop-ups, and any event that would allow us to share our pieces with real customers. Those early days taught us hustle, resilience, and what it meant to build a brand from the ground up.

Our first major retailer was Nordstrom, a dream partnership that completely changed the trajectory of our business. It validated the work we put in and propelled us into the next phase of growth. From there, we continued to evolve and expand and partner with retailers like free people, Anthropologie, scheels, revolve, and many amazing retailers and boutiques nationwide. we learned to expand our collections, build out our operations, and turn BRACHA into a nationally recognized brand.

Today, we’re proud of how far we’ve come as sisters, founders, and leaders. Our journey hasn’t been linear, but every step has shaped who we are and how we run our company with purpose, creativity, and a commitment to excellence.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but every challenge has shaped who we are as a brand. We’ve experienced the full spectrum, low lows, steady seasons, and incredible highs. Building a business as two sisters with a small but mighty team means we often wear every hat, make tough decisions, and learn as we go.

Some of our biggest challenges were scaling with limited resources, navigating rapid growth, and figuring out systems while still staying creative. There were moments where we felt stretched thin, moments where we questioned our next steps, and moments where we simply had to innovate under pressure. But those same pressures became the very things that made us stronger.

We’ve learned to adapt, pivot quickly, and stay grounded in our mission no matter what the season looks like. The obstacles have never stopped us, if anything, they’ve sharpened our resilience. We thrive in that constant ebb and flow, and it’s what continues to push us forward today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As sisters and co-founders, we each lead distinct parts of the brand that work together seamlessly. Sayra oversees our wholesale division while also serving as an incredible CEO. She curates and develops our latest collections, works closely with our retail partners and our team to help and manage the relationships and accounts that help bring BRACHA into stores across the country.

Michelle leads the creative direction of our online presence and brand marketing. From digital strategy to visual identity, she ensures that every launch tells a modern, cohesive story that feels true to the brand. Together, we blend design, trend forecasting, and strategy to create pieces that genuinely resonate. While also helping design unique of a kind styles.

We’re known for developing products that spark viral moments. Our Classic Initial Card Necklace became a staple, to the point where it feels like everyone has owned one or gifted one. In 2024, our Watercolor Initial Necklace went viral on TikTok, selling out on launch day and becoming one of our most-requested pieces. Year to date, we’ve handmade over 8,200 of those necklaces. Most recently, our Star Shine Necklace created another viral wave, leading a trend across the jewelry space and becoming a signature BRACHA piece.

What truly sets us apart, though, is our purpose. A portion of every purchase helps support our partnered organizations fighting to end human trafficking. Because of our customers and our growth, we’ve been able to help fund safe houses for victims, creating real impact and support for women rebuilding their lives. It’s the heartbeat behind everything we do and a constant reminder that our work extends far beyond jewelry.

Our blend of creativity, trendsetting design, and meaningful purpose is what makes BRACHA unique, and it’s what keeps us inspired to keep creating pieces people feel connected to.

Any big plans?
We’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead. One of the biggest milestones on the horizon is the completion of our official headquarters, which we’re hoping to open in early 2026. It’s been a long time in the making, and it will finally give us the space and structure to continue growing in the way we’ve envisioned for years.

Along with that, we’re launching our first BRACHA concept store, a project that feels like a dream coming to life. Our goal is to create a fun, modern, and interactive shopping experience where customers can not only explore our collections but also design and customize pieces on the spot. We want it to feel like a reflection of who we are: creative, welcoming, and purpose-driven.

As a brand, we’re focused on expanding thoughtfully while staying true to our identity. Every year brings new lessons, new innovation, and new opportunities, and even with all the growth we’ve experienced, we truly feel like we’re just getting started. There’s so much more we want to build, create, and impact, and we’re excited for the next chapter.
