Conversations with Monica King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica King.

Hi Monica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for interior design really began with my first internship out of college, at a lighting company called Lighting Connection. I learned so much about the lighting industry as a whole and different elements of interior design. I then continued my journey by working at a luxury furniture company called Arteriors. Working there really elevated my interest in design and it started to become a passion. I began studying and following design trends as the years progressed.

Fast forward 5 years later and here I am. I started my interior design business in January 2022 and have already accomplished much more than I could have imagined. I am so grateful for all of my clients and I am excited for what the future holds.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most challenging part thus far has been navigating through inventory shortages and extended back orders. Oftentimes, my clients need products quickly and some great pieces are limited or are out of stock. Being able to pivot quickly and source alternative selections is the new normal. The great thing with design, is you can always accomplish a similar look with multiple brands.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

I offer full-service interior design; however, I am currently gaining the most business in designing clients’ Airbnb properties. I am most proud of how much traction and support I am getting in such a short amount of time. What sets me apart from others is that I work with all budgets and don’t limit myself to one type of clientele.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
First and foremost, make a plan on what you are wanting to achieve. I started out by breaking down my goals monthly. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed or discouraged, especially in the beginning. Small tasks daily will help you achieve your end goal(s).
