Conversations with Natalia Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Sanchez.

Natalia Sanchez

Hi Natalia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

I started developing a deep interest for the arts at the age of 4. My curiosity led me to try to learn as many skills as possible related to the arts. Painting, music, acting, singing, playing instruments, photography, dance, design. Throughout the years I’ve developed tons of hobbies but I always gravitated towards dance. That’s how I realized I had discovered my passion and the reason that made me wake up in the morning. Besides, artists are very cool and such good people to work with.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the struggles I faced at first when I decided to be a dancer and choreographer was the lack of educational programs and performance opportunities that my city and sometimes country presented. I was so curious about choreography and dance composition but no school offered a specific program that could satisfy my hunger into learning the craft, so I knew I had to leave and look for that education elsewhere and leaving home was hard for me. I love Mexico, its people, the parties, and the food. The first months of arrival in the US and in NYC were harder in terms of culture and language.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a dancer, I’ve performed and worked with choreographers like Jenn Freeman, Raul Contreras, Marques Furr, Eilish Henderson, Teresa Fellion, Yara Travieso, and Catherine Correa to name a few.

My choreographic work both on stage and film has been presented at national and international venues and festivals like Universidad de Monterrey Theater, Triskelion Arts, KNJ Theater, Balance Arts Center, the Emelin Theater, Arts on Site, ESTIA Variety Show and Fall4Fall Festival. I recently worked as a movement director for ZA111’s new music video “Sagitario”.

Credits for my photographic work include PlayBill Magazine for Preston Mui alongside Stephanie Jae Park and The Dynasties! and Artistic Tribe Magazine.

I am currently working as a Programs Manager at Green Space Studio, as a Dancer with BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance, Threads of Truth Dance and with choreographer Eilish Henderson, as a Dance Photography & Video Assistant with Quinn Wharton, as a Ballet and Tap Teaching Assistant for kids ages 5- 7 at Peridance Center, and as a Social Media Manager with Beth Graczyk Productions.

What’s next?
I have some performances coming up where you can catch my work. The closest one being Dumbo Dance Festival on June 30th 2024 at the James and Martha Duffy Performance Space in NYC. You can see more of my work in my webpage!
