Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Lillard.
Hi Nia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, I moved to Texas shortly after graduating to be closer to family. I spent a few years in Houston before eventually settling in Dallas. Growing up, I always dreamed of working in the healthcare field. I’ve always had a nurturing spirit and a passion for helping others. From the time I was five years old, I was convinced I’d become an OB/GYN.
After my grandmother retired from teaching, she opened a daycare—and I spent my summers helping her care for the kids. That experience deepened my love for children and ignited my natural caretaker instinct.
I began my journey in healthcare with big dreams, but everything changed when I found out I was going to be a mother. Wanting to prioritize my health and fully embrace motherhood, I made the difficult decision to step back from the healthcare field. Working 12- to 16-hour shifts while trying to be a hands-on, stay-at-home mom just wasn’t realistic. It was heartbreaking to walk away from a dream I’d held onto my entire life—but God had other plans for me.
A few months postpartum, I began to reflect on what I truly wanted in a career. I needed something flexible, something that allowed me to be present for my son while still using my gifts. I’m independent, driven, quick-witted, great with people—and I still had that deep desire to help others.
After a long conversation with my brother Zach, he suggested real estate. He believed in me and saw how my personality and skills would translate perfectly into the field. I took his advice to heart, immediately signed up for classes, and began the journey to getting my real estate license.
It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Not only do I get to be fully present for my son, but I also have the incredible privilege of guiding clients through one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Within my first year, I was honored to receive several awards—including being named one of the top 10 agents in my office.
I’m incredibly grateful for every step of the journey—especially the ones I didn’t plan. I thank God for opening every door, and I’m beyond thankful to my clients, friends, family, and fellow agents who’ve supported me every step of the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, real estate gives you the flexibility to create your own schedule and be your own boss—but with that freedom comes the challenge of self-discipline, especially when you’re wearing many hats.
For me, that means juggling motherhood, homeschooling, running a business, managing a household, staying consistent with self-care, creating content, and leading a women’s ministry three days a week at 5 AM. It’s a lot—and it requires serious time management and intentional planning.
The truth is, real estate isn’t what reality TV makes it look like. Behind the scenes, it takes daily hustle. You have to be consistent. You have to prospect, follow up, cold call, network, and find creative ways to generate new business—every single day. And since no one is holding you accountable except you, it’s easy to get off track if you’re not careful.
There have been tough days—times when business slowed down, deals fell through, and I felt discouraged. But I’ve learned you can’t let those moments stop you. Every transaction is a lesson, whether it goes smoothly or not. You grow from every win and every setback.
Because the moment you stop showing up is the moment you fall behind. And in this business, only the strong survive.
At the end of April, I’ll be celebrating two full years as an active agent—and I’m proud to say I’m still here. That’s a big deal, especially in an industry where most people give up within the first 1–2 years. I’m thankful for the journey—ups, downs, and everything in between—and I hope my story reminds someone out there that you can do it, too.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in helping my clients find the perfect place to call home. Whether you’re expanding your family, becoming an empty nester, or simply looking for a fresh start, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. If you’re searching for something more temporary—like a rental home or apartment—I can help with that too. And if you’re stepping into entrepreneurship and need the perfect space to run your business, I’ve got you covered.
What I’m most proud of is the genuine love and passion I have for what I do. For me, it’s never just about a commission—it’s about the people. I’m truly devoted to making every transaction as smooth and stress-free as possible.
What sets me apart is the connection I build with my clients. Once you become my client, we’re locked in. I remember birthdays, anniversaries, graduations—and I always check in during the holidays. My clients become more than just a transaction—they become family. And that relationship doesn’t end at the closing table.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
