Conversations with Nicole Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Davis.

Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My photography journey started like many moms, with the birth of my firstborn 19 years ago. I loved capturing every milestone, every birthday, and those everyday moments. I’ve always had a love of documenting moments and creating memories. I love being able to look back at old photos and hear the stories told about them. Years ago, my husband bought me a camera for my birthday and I just started taking pictures with it. Family members would ask me to take pictures of their weddings, baby showers, and more. Fast forward to 2020, I decided that I wanted to start my own photography business to help other families create tangible memories, so they will have to look back on for years to come. I literally just jumped right in. I bought a professional camera, learned how to use it, and joined a few creative and business courses to help me launch my business and I absolutely love it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been quite a journey! I’m a full-time teacher, wife of an Evangelist, and mom of 5, so finding the right “balance” between my roles has been challenging. I also didn’t realize how a huge part of photography would be put into the business side of things. It takes a lot to run a sustainable business. I’ve learned that it’s more than just taking pretty pictures. However, through my faith, perseverance, and a huge support system, I have grown and learned a lot! Many people ask me how I find time to do it all. The truth is… I have a lot of areas I need to fine-tune in my business, but I am learning and growing every day. I have invested in mentorships and programs that will help me streamline my workflow and provide the best client experience. I’ve also learned how to say “no” and that I don’t have to take every offer that comes my way. My faith and my family are the most important aspects of my life, so if anything interferes with those things or even if I just need a mental break, I can give myself that time away from the business side of things. My next step is to outsource a few things so that I can focus on the things that are more important and things that only I can do in my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle motherhood and family photographer specializing in maternity, newborns, families, and milestone sessions. I serve the Dallas-Fort Worth area. My style of photography focuses on the true connection and in-between moments rather than the posed images. I love creating bold, vibrant and joyful images. I photograph in-home sessions, beautiful outdoor locations around the metroplex, and in studios. As a teacher for 12+ years and a mom of 5, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected and just go with the flow, especially when it comes to working with babies and children. Your kids will not be the wildest kids that I have met and it’s okay. Babies cry and get fussy and that’s okay. I often get moms who say “I can’t believe you were able to capture these images.” Where you see chaos, I see beauty. I am known for my extreme patience, laid-back, and fun-loving personality. We will have fun and play games if you have littles. I will follow your little one’s lead. If we need to take breaks, we will. My goal is to capture your family in whatever season of life you are in, turn them into beautiful art and gift you with tangible memories. I want you to see the beauty that I see through my lens and fall more in love with the family you created.

I do more than just show up to your session with my camera. I know how busy life can get and planning for a photo session is adding one more thing to your never-ending to-do list. I know how sometimes we wish we could freeze time and remember moments a little bit longer. I know how it feels to regret moments that I wish I would’ve documented. That is where I come in. I want my client’s photography experience to be as stress-free as possible and FUN! Not just another dreaded thing on your to-do list but a joyful experience. I do this by providing my clients with an easy booking process, session prep guide, and styling assistance to help them prepare for their session. I get great joy when I’m able to serve my clients and provide them with a wonderful experience.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For someone just starting out, my advice would be to not be afraid to invest in your growth. Rather it be a mentor or coach, a mastermind, or course, learning from others who have been there and already went through the struggles is the best thing I have done so far for my business. Another piece of advice is to not forget who you are and why you started the business in the first place. It’s okay to be different and not do things like everyone else. Find what works for you and stick to it. It’s not about how many followers you have on social media, but about the relationship and connections you build with others. For me, serving my clients well is a wonderful feeling. I believe that every good and perfect gift comes from above and with those gifts, we should use them to serve and bless others.
