Conversations with Nikita Amadi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Amadi.

Hi Nikita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
At the beginning of my music career, I attempted to hide my musical desires from my parents being that I was raised in a Nigerian household in the city of Houston, Texas which did not last long at all. I eventually had to overcome the fear of rejection and build my faith/confidence to chase my dreams!

I began traveling outside of my hometown for shows, releasing more music, and seeing a tremendous amount of great feedback. As time progressed, I had my family’s full support in the career path of my choice and I have been persevering ever since. I chose not to limit myself to one genre of music is that I love them all; which caused me to branch out into RnB, Pop, and Afrobeats!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly, the journey has been an emotional rollercoaster due to societal expectations and meeting people that try to either take advantage of your artistry or even attempt to intimidate you with minor acts of injustice. But overall, no one said that the road would be easy or pretty.

I’ve learned over time how gritty the industry can get but how no matter what, I know that humility is what has gotten me this far as well as having a tunnel vision for my success. As my dad would always say, “Success is in the eyes of the Successor”, you may not be able to control certain things around you, but always remember to focus on what you can control and what you desire to come to fruition!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a musician that not only sings and dances but I also play the drums and the piano! I genuinely love creating as well as being around other gifted artists/musicians that love it as much as I do. From every element; from the production of the song down to visualizing a motion picture for the music I compose.

It’s like a mini-movie curated for an audience to either inspire, be relatable, or simply have a vulnerable moment for my listeners to step into my world. I wouldn’t deem myself a very proud person, I just genuinely love having fun and expressing myself to whomever through my music which is what I feel differentiates me from others. I believe that is the true beauty of creating; having a childlike mindset of just hearing sounds, seeing different elements, and compacting them all together to create a masterpiece!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Work harder so that in the future you can work smarter. I feel like such a pandemic impacted so many lives whether that was negatively or positively. For me, it was a bit of both being that it forced me to become more creative during such an era we live in. Whereas the internet and social media became the only way to connect with people all over the world. I feel like that alone showed me how I wasn’t working hard enough before such a crisis, and also showed me how much we should all cherish one another and get closer to God.
