Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Houff.
Hi Nikki, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Not sure how to word this but I guess it all started with getting accepted into the art institute of Dallas/graduating with my bachelor of fine arts in graphic design… yea that’s what got the ball rolling then I went to work for a small graphics and printing company where I learned how to make graphics come to life after the design side of things… making things like game end cap designs for Walmart after working there a couple of years and going to a slighter bigger graphics company and learning the installation side of graphics/printing and noticing how I was a big part of the whole operation… I figured I could do what I always wanted to do since freshman year design things for small companies and give them an opportunity to be just as nice/professional looking as the bigger companies so that’s where my small graphics company started
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a totally smooth road but it hasn’t been that difficult either… some of my struggles have been learning how to manage my time since my company has grown a lot over this last year and I still run the whole show for the most part… as for designing, printing and installing or delivering the finished product so with that being said there’s not enough time in the day… another struggle would be dealing with the high up and dwns that comes with doing graphics… there’s months when I can’t fit everyone or every project in on my schedule and months where I’m trying to pull more projects in or helping other friends with their loads
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
This is a hard one lol… I’m most proud of starting my own graphics and photography company and helping different business here in my hometown (Dallas)… I specialize in storefront designs, photography, and other business creative needs like logos, promotional items, etc.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love to read and or listen to podcast that talk about starting or running a business… a good one is sis start your business this podcast teaches you about things you need to do when starting a business on the creative side… as far as books there’s a lot of self-help books and or motivational reads like Produced by Faith by DeVon Franklin and another is superhuman by design by Donald Burlock two total different reads but they both can help you move forward creatively when you feel stuck and or just give you some guidance when needed
