Conversations with Nina Holloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Holloway.

Hi Nina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began when I moved from Kansas to Texas in 2010 to pursue my dream of going to Art school. I started at the Art Institute of Dallas, and my little creative, introverted heart was in pure bliss and eager to learn it all! While attending school, I learned not only the fashion business in-depth but how to also own and operate a business in addition to graphic design and marketing. From there, I owned a clothing line with two of my friends, started a YouTube and then I begin a career with a PR company and from there launched my new company, 7th & Knox, alongside my mom. 7th & Knox feels like my child (haha). It started as a self-care business with candles, robes, bath soaks and more and now its grown into something even bigger and we’re currently making a transition back to my first love… CLOTHING! So now 7th & Knox will not only be for self-care, but we will also be getting your closets together as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No way! It’s been every bit of challenging from clashing with business partners to something not being executed how you envisioned to layoffs due to the pandemic. This has been a true learning experience from start to finish. However, I don’t think without those challenges. I would know how to maneuver through them with such ease now 11 years later. It has been nothing short of rewarding, but yes stressful too!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So currently, I do freelance PR and Marketing for numerous companies, including local small businesses. A lot of people don’t understand what exactly PR is. Well, the best way to describe it is I’m a person of MANY hats! In addition to that, I’m very well versed in graphic and web design. So not only can I make your image polished and keep you and your company relevant to your market, but I can also run your social media outlets for you as well as design your entire website from the ground up. My biggest accomplishment and thing I’m most proud of thus far has to be 7th & Knox! It doesn’t feel like “work” to me. It feels like I should’ve been doing this all along. That to me, is absolutely priceless. What sets me apart is I’m very resilient. I will turn lemons to lemonade in seconds if I need to! I don’t believe in staying down too long. I also am very confident in my work. I have a certain style in how I work/respond that may not work for others. However, just know I always get the job done and executed perfectly every time.

How do you define success?
I don’t define it by money. I believe that’s a given. One way I define success is by happiness! If what you’re doing isn’t making you happy, why are you doing it? I think that’s the joy of being a millennial, we refuse to settle, and we’re open to trying new things to become both successful and happy. I also define success by having a clear outline of what your goals look like so you can meet them, having boundaries with yourself and understanding that everyone can’t come, making sacrifices and knowing the difference between a want and a need and also (in the words of my mother) “paying yourself first!” Not literally paying yourself, unless that’s your thing, but more-so taking care of YOU first before getting too wrapped up in your daily life.
