Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Boyles.
Patricia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I relocated to Texas from Northern Illinois in 2017. I became employed as an accountant for a Dallas design district nationally acclaimed glass design company. My relocation was rough. I had never relocated before.
I mis manged the process. Many of my belongings were in storage-I had to buy replacements.
Christmas was coming & I was broke. I was afraid that my grown children back home would think I made a poor choice & ask me to return home.
Then one afternoon I was in the production area of our facility & staff was cleaning up and throwing out pieces of glass that I knew cost a great deal. When questioned, our production mgr explained it was scrap. No longer usable to us.
Whoa! I asked to have some of it & then I self taught myself mosaics. I use a totally different process than most artists.
I made crosses (I found wood crosses at Walmart for a buck) and gave them out to staff & family. I put encouraging scripture on the back of each piece.
Everyone said I should do this…. and I said NO. It’s hard on the hands, and it takes a lot of time. NO.
God & I had a fight & he won.
I am now retired, I travel all over texas to share the love of God. I have been blessed upon blessed. I now am featured at top-quality art shows all over.
I have never before made art in any capacity….but? I am living live forward. Sharing the love of God.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am a type “A”….to the nineth degree. Art has taught me to release my anxiety and expectations & flow.
Also. To be successful you have to treat this like a business. Analyze. Strategize….plan..
So many superb artists fail to plan & prepare and their pocket suffers for that.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a mosaic artist. Each of my pieces is 100% hand crafted. All of my art has hand written (encouraging) bible scripture on the back side. I am able to purchase TOP quality (often imported) art glass scraps from my former employer and the end result is dazzling
What’s next?
I am hoping to get an active & manageable web portal. I just turned 69 and as much as I enjoy the events, it’s hard on me. Recently I have begun doing classes, showing people you can have zero experience & succeed
