Conversations with Peter Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Gonzalez.

Hi Peter, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My best friend and partner, Isabel, is a Dallas wedding and event planner. I have a similar event coordinator background and love to help her on her big events part-time since I have a full-time government job.

It was fall 2020 and the pandemic was still rampant. Since large gatherings were out of the question at that moment people began to get creative on how they were going to celebrate life’s milestones. We both started seeing balloons “blowing up” in the event industry over the last few years and we thought, why not us?

We both had more free time to focus on building a brand and foster new ideas that could make us stand out in this market. We both have the hospitality industry experience, we are creative, and love being a part of people’s special events making it even more rewarding. We are both proud Hispanic-Americans. Living in a diverse city like Dallas we are passionate about the fact that we can service our large Spanish-speaking clientele we have in this city.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, for us, it has been a pretty smooth road. We both have full-time jobs to fall back on and we are aware that not everyone has that luxury. I have a loving family at home and they have been very supportive of this from the beginning. They are my always in my corner and have stepped up to help since we do not have additional staff yet.

However, I did not go to school for business and I am starting to see the obstacles that begin to arise the more and more you grow your business (e.g.: accounting, marketing, taxes, purchasing, etc.). It has definitely been a learning curve, but I am learning a ton and it has opened my eyes to what it takes to run a successful business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in custom balloon designs. We create balloon installations that can be as simple as a Jumbo balloon with “Happy Birthday” to something on a larger scale like the event we did for Mi Cocina’s Mambo Mile Race on Klyde Warren Park this summer.

We create special balloon moments that make a statement to any event. We create balloon garlands of all sizes, custom-themed balloon walls, and small to large abstract designs.

The great thing about balloons is that you can make them as fun and silly or as dramatic and elegant as you want them to be. They are versatile and we pride ourselves in having amazing clients who trust us and let us run with our creativity to create something they will be sure to love.

The thing that sets us apart from others is our customer service. We know the area, the industry, and we always go above and beyond. We ensure that every client is completely happy with our service and that the final product has met the high standards that we have set for ourselves.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
My full-time job before starting Helio bar is in the Criminal Justice field.
