Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Kimble.
Porsha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After being laid off from my corporate job while taking cake decorating classes at a local cake supply store, I began my own journey. I decided to start baking cakes by creating a new business page on social media and advertising. Once I was able to create a client base, I began to teach for Wilton Industries and then branched out to teach my own classes. That led to me traveling the world teaching other home bakers and bakeries to help them in their business on pricing and decorating skills. As I traveled, I created two retreats. One for cake and treat makers, and another retreat for cookie makers/decorators that is held in different locations every year. Now I have my own flavoring line sold in over 20 stores in the United States, and online.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been rocky and costly. Creating flavors for bakers has been the most expensive as doing taste testing and running through trials to make sure each flavor is accurate. Traveling to teach is not for the fate of heart. To be in an area that you are not familiar with to gather certain supplies, is expensive as well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in custom cakes, teaching a “Baking & Business” class on pricing for bakers along with cake decorating techniques. Now with two retreats to help bakers and decorators is what I am most proud of because it helps people from all over the world that attend. What sets me apart is I have grown my business in the baking community into several different streams of income.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as happiness. Doing what you love to do when you want to do it because it brings you pure joy.
