Conversations with Rick Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Lopez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Started Djing at the age of 16 in highschool. Following and looking up to some of Dallas’ biggest djs on a local station which was very popular when I was young by name of KNON 89.3. At the age of 18 I started making remixes on my computer which I only purchased to talk to girls on AOL chatrooms so it was kind of an accident. My remixes got extremely popular extremely fast to the point that I was approached by the biggest Record store in the city at the time named ATPT (All Time Party Time). The owner asked me to start my own series of remix vinyls (GKUTZ) for djs and before I knew it, the series grew worldwide. I was nicknamed “the remixx king” at the age of 19 and then approached by the biggest HipHop Radio station back then 97.9 The Beat and hired. I was the youngest at the time and proceeded to take advantage of my position by building relationships with major artists making mixtapes with them and building relationships with other major djs across the country. Now after doing radio and clubs for over 20 years currently travel across the country and the world to DJ.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely NOT a smooth road at all. Murphy’s law if anything can go wrong it will and indeed it did. My entire career has been a struggle even til now. There is always someone trying to take your position not wanting you to advance and block your blessings. But perseverance is gets you through all that. It’s not just about being a great dj or talented. I preach to all my younger friends about that all the time. Not ONLY do you have to be talented, But you also have to be a people person, know how to look, talk, act, be professional, also be a good person, ALWAYS have gratitude, know how to build and keep relationships, be knowledgeable, be and stay humble at the same time know your worth.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently I travel nationally/internationally to DJ. Entertainment Director for a couple of nightlcubs in Dallas also Media Director/Manager for a chiropractic firm in Dallas. I specialize in open format video mix Djing and MCing. Also specialize in Entertainment consulting and Media production such as visuals, advertisement and promotions. I’m mostly known for my DJing because of 20+ straight years of radio and clubs. My proudest achievements have to be my relationships that I have built over the decades. That’s just something money cannot buy. What set me apart from everyone else is my uniqueness. I got my name “QuickMixxRick’ when I was a kid by mixing quick. I did a lot of “firsts” in Texas like satellite radio, major artists collaborations, djd concerts with over 50k+ so after a long time I was blessed with my name to become a household name in Dallas.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot of people still are surprised that I speak fluent spanish. I am very very white complected and get told I don’t look Mexican at all. Also Ive never really talked or bragged about my accomplishments. So a lot of people are surprised to find out all the major things I’ve accomplished in my career.
