Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickitha Hicks.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Wig making started as a simple hobby for me back in 2014. Growing up, my mom always kept my hair done, so keeping my hair done has always been at the top of my priority list. When I started attending college, maintaining my hair was very expensive. I started doing my
own hair and making wigs to save money.
After a few wigs, others started noticing my wigs. I started making wigs for friends and family for extra money. Once I noticed my side hustle was growing, I started investing my time and money to create the business I have today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth Road? Starting a Black-Owned Business has not been a smooth road. This business life has a lot of ups and downs.
This road gets very bumpy; from dealing with other things behind the scenes like finances, marketing, time management, and many more other things. One major struggle for me has been finding and learning about funding. As a new business owner, I’m always stepping out on faith. Sometimes I have to use money I’ve earned from my 9-5 to attend courses, buy products and supplies. Doing this has been very scary, at times, because who knows
when or if I’ll get that money back.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a cranial prosthesis specialist, wig designer, and wig designer instructor. I specialize in creating wigs for women who are dealing with medical hair loss. I also specialize in creating wigs for women
who are just like me. Women who gracefully embrace their beauty, one wig at a time. I am proud of myself. I am a black woman who is leading by example. I am not letting life stop me from reaching all my
goals. What sets me apart from others is my personality and work ethic.
