Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Skelly.
Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Long Island, NY into a family with an entrepreneurial spirit. My parents were small business owners and I always learned the importance of family from them. We moved to South Florida when I was in the 3rd grade and I consider that to be where I “grew up” I attended a military high school then went on to college and started my career on Wall Street in New York City. I have had to switch gears and deal with market adversity and layoffs and that taught me the value of never giving up. My parents were hard workers and instilled in me that you can always make changes and succeed, that you are never stuck because of your circumstances. Faith, family and friends always supported me and kept me going.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it really hasn’t been smooth, as I mentioned I’ve had to change gears in my career multiple times, lots of hustle and hard work and lots of faith is what got me to where I am now. I am thankful for those hard times, that’s where you learn the most about yourself, what matters and what’s possible. Getting laid off from a corporation is a cold hard deal and you feel like it’s the end of your career. By the grace of God, I have come out of each of the setbacks in a better place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have spent 20 years investing in and managing real estate, oil and gas, and financial products for corporations and families. My experience working for global companies like ExxonMobil and Goldman Sachs taught me the power of finance and the value of relationships. I have taken that experience and now apply it to Personal Finance in helping people with their home loans. I treat every customer’s loan as a personal interaction understanding that everyone has different goals and desires in life and that there is not a “one size fits all” way to do this business. Finance and Banking can seem like a commodity driven business of rates and fees, what I have learned and apply to my business is that its “More Than Just A Rate”. The personal finance aspect of learning about a family and what’s important to them and helping them achieve what they desire is what makes my job so satisfying. I have been blessed to have been voted “Top Mortgage Lender in Southlake” by the Southlake Style Readers’ Choice Awards the last two years and a D Magazine “Best of” Mortgage Professional this year.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am a 1998 Business Graduate from The Citadel and I make my home in Southlake, Texas with my amazing wife Dana and three young children Addison, Sienna and Hunter. Together we are very active in our community, our church and our children’s schools. We love to travel together and all have a heart for giving.
