Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryn Taylor
Hi Ryn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been in love with everything revolving around film and directing. When I got first my camera, jumping straight into directing felt really daunting to me so I decided it was easier to start with photography. I first picked up concert photography last year in February after landing an internship at B-Sides TV as their Texas hire. It is so rewarding to interact with various artists not only through shows, but interviews as well. It has made me connect with their music even more. Currently, I’ve been reaching out to band managers for smaller, local shows in Denton which helps a ton with exploring the city.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was definitely not a smooth road at first. Figuring out camera settings and how to create presets were difficult as a novice. However, as soon as I shot my first show for Weyes Blood last year, I was in love with the challenge. Going to shows alone was another change to get acclimated to, but I’m able to connect with other photographers and gather some tips and tricks! Plus, it is extremely cool to watch my favorite artists up close!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As someone who is passionate about music, I am so lucky to be able to capture one of life’s joyous moments at their most vibrant. I am an aspiring director and screenwriter, so the leap into concert photography definitely bleeds into my film work. There is nothing I love more than immortalizing an artist/band’s hard work and sharing it with the world. My goal is for my 2025 is to film a concert or tour documentary.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I know I’ve mentioned film quite a bit already, but it truly is my passion. My childhood consisted of my dad and I watching several of his DVDs each day for hours. I really cherish those memories and how they expanded my interest. As the years passed, I immersed myself in consuming every film that I could and often talked about them nonstop. I wrote a few short three page scripts in high school, but I didn’t fully flesh anything out until lockdown. I spent most of that time reworking it until it felt right, but it never did. I never let that deter me from my goals. Now, I am currently studying Film at the University of North Texas. I’m able to push myself and tap into my creativity with my screenwriting and film analysis courses.
